Its as much an opinion as fact i guess,as their careers were very similar both having good arm strength and some bad teams. I'd say Kenny gets my vote since he did have a lead leading offense with Mcneil in the mid 80's,and out gunned Marino a few times.

Very, very, very close in my mind.

O'Brien probably was more accomplished in terms of personal statistics, so the younger guys would probably give him the nod.

Unfortunately, Todd's career and his standing with Jet fans was defined by that AFC Championship Game against Miami in the Mud Bowl when he was just awful.

I realize he threw alot of interceptions, certainly more than O'Brien did, but Todd had a number of nice comebacks over his career and he was a pretty gritty kid, and one tough SOB for a QB. The game in 1981 against Miami at Shea Stadium when he played with broken ribs and led the Jets to a comeback win in the final seconds catapulting the Jets into 1st place was one of my favorite Jet memories of any year. He had very good years in 1981 and 1982 and had the Jets played the '82 Championship Game on a dry field, his legacy would be much different with Jet fans than it is now.

Ironically, he had his best years when Walt Michaels was the HC and Joe Walton was the OC, but as soon as Walton became head coach, the offense became much more predictable and he eventually turned on Todd.

As I said, O'Brien was probably more accomplished, but I'm proabably partial to Todd.

I have to discount Todd taking the team deeper into the playoffs, simply because the '82 team had a good coach, whereas O'Brien's played for a couple of buffoons. O'Brien also had to contend with Marino in the division and outgunned him in one of the great games in Jets history.

Edge O'Brien.

Imagine what Obie could have accomplished if he had a great offensive line. I remember his ability to throw a very accurate deep ball. I also recall him taking many massive hits from opposing defenses. I go with Obie over Todd.

This is not even close, O'Brien was a much better QB. The only problem was that the Jets had no offensive line to speak off and Kenny O took soem ferocious shots. O'Brien took a lot of unwarranted criticism because the Jets passed over Marino to pick him. That was the Jjets fault, not O'Briens.

I agree with the Marino statement 100%. Ken was an above average qb with a bad oline for his whole career yet managed to lead the nfl in offense one year. Sure Marino's a hall of famer, but switch the teams they played on and think about the difference in the outcome. Scaling these two qb's: If Marino ranks as a 98 out of 100, I'd put O'brien as an 87,which is by far a bad starting qb.

He was just very stubborn he would hold onto the ball to long and take a sack instead of dumping the ball off or throwing it away.

You can imagine how many times my wife and I screamed dump the ball either at games or watching on TV.

I think O'Brien had a better arm and was much more consistent. Todd was a much better runner. Kenny O held the ball too long and was monumentally slow of foot. I think you guys are a little too hard on the line. They weren't so bad, Kenny O shares some of the blame for the sacks, but IMO that's really his only shortcoming.

the word "jailbreak" comes to mind. Kenny O took a beating every week

we should be very grateful for the line we have now

O'Brien put up some great numbers and although I wasn't alive for his playing days (well, alive for some but too young to remember), all I ever hear from friends in their 30's and 40's that if he had an Offensive Line he would have been great.

O'Brien's stats easily trump Todd's.
