kelticwizard
We have a new QB era about to begin, and Jerricho Cotchery is our best receiver. Can this be good? I'm not saying Cotchery can't help a team, but he does seem to be better in a complementary role. Who's he supposed to complement? I was expecting us to have someone else lined up by now. Maybe David Clowney is doing his thing and impressing people. I hear more concern about a WR coming from us fans as of late than the Jets. Maybe Rex is making players out of the offense like he did with the players on Defense. This could be!
Irish Jet
WR is not going to be a huge priority on this team. I think our offense is going to be very Tennessee Titan like (The Kerry Collins version, not the VY version), with maybe a little less from the passing game and even more of the running game. We have Keller too don't forget. If he can provide a good target for Clemens/Sanchez which he seemed to be developing into last season, then he could be every bit as valuable as a good WR. It's a problem, there's no doubt about it but I still think we have enough power in our running game and defense that we'll get by with an average passing attack. Irish Jet
Fixed. Hope you're right, but we'll see. I can't say I'd be shocked if Clemens did indeed win the job.
DoubleDown
Our WR corps could definitely use an upgrade at the #1 spot. With that said, I think Cotchery is being a bit underrated. His production during the past three years has been solid, and he has shown the ability to make plays. Under the right circumstances, I think he can be an effective #1 receiver. People often overlook Keller, but he will be a major target in our offense over the next few years. With a run heavy approach, we should be utilizing the play action often which will open things up for our young playmaker. Hopefully one of our young WR's can step up into a starting role. Under the right circumstances, these players have the skills to be good role players. Stuckey has a very similar skill set to Coles, Clowney has the speed to stretch the field, and Smith might finally become comfortable at his new position. Stranger things have happened. We can succeed without having an elite star on the outside. It's been done plenty of times in the NFL. I'm cautiously optimistic.

People tend to overestimate the value of Top WR's. They're great to have, not debating that, but it is very possible to win without them. The most important aspect of any offense starts up front, with the line. I genuinely believe we have one of the best if not the best unit in the league. It will only get better with continuity too. Our Trio of running backs has ridiculous potential. Jones is a proven workhorse, I'm not a huge fan of his but he can undoubtebly carry the load and put up a 4.0+ average, which IMO is what we need. Then factor in the explosive and versatile abilites of Leon and the bruising style of Greene. I absolutely love how they've already been describing him as a closer. Kid's going to be like Marion Barber III IMO. There's a lot of question marks, and I'm by no means declaring this as a good or even average offense. Not yet, a lot still depends on who the QB is and how he plays. But in a game that's largely won and lost in the trenches, I like the way this team is set up. Lil Bit Special
Once Plax's court case gets handled in a few days, the Jets will sign him to a contract.
124
Once Plax's court case gets handled in a few days, the Jets will sign him to a contract. Agreed. You can say that you can win without a #1 receiver, but you have to have a great Quarterback to do. You can bring up Kerry Collins, but what exactly did he win in Tennessee last season? Regular season games, nothing more. Having a true #1 WR is a great thing to have. The Jets NEED a WR to step it up, even with Cotchery and Keller. We NEED someone to step it up or else we are in big trouble. That or as you said, sign Plax, which I hope we do. He would make this team GREAT. All the more reason to start Sanchez opening day IMO. Play smash mouth football, buying your young gun time to learn then later in the season catch some folks by surprise with a little play-action after you've established a trend of running the ball alot. Hell, my team did it for decades.
Pragmatic Bus
where is Klecko when you need him to pound the doubters into submission with his brutal yet strangely erotiq banter.
Greenseed3
If I was Plax, I would want to stay in the eye of the Big Apple while playing for Rex Ryan. This team has a swagger that can't be found in the Windy City.

Actually, I agree that we don't have a true number one WR. I think it's looking more and more like Keller is going to be the primary target in the passing game, which is not necessarily a bad thing with a rookie or inexperienced QB starting. kelticwizard
I think having a great target is key to a young QB's development. Look what Burress did for Eli. Regardless of when he takes over as starter, it is likely to be a struggle for Sanchez his first several games. All the more reason for him to develop a rapport with a great receiver to get him on track. Cotchery can make a nice key catch for you, but do you imagine the opposition spends a lot time in their pregame meeting deciding what to do to stop him?
