SMC
3M? You're using the wrong math. Sanchez's money comes out of the rookie pool which is the cap within a cap. The Jets were slotted with a certain amount they can pay to rookies. The Jets still have over $9 million in cap space. The Sanchez contract comes out of the Jets' rookie pool and doesn't affect money that would be available to give RB Leon Washington a new deal. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/06/qb_mark_sanchez_signs_deal_wit.html

Rookie salaries still count on the regular cap, however, in year 1, there can only be X for Rookies (I forget what the Jets were assigned) so the rest if bonuses in year 2 and beyond. Odds are Sanchez will only carry a cap hit this year somewhere between 2.5 and 2.7 million. The Jets were only allotted 3.4 million to use on rookies. I believe we should be around 12 million right now in cap room.

Greenranger
According to nyjetscap.com we have $13,346,848 to spend, but this isn't updated yet to include the Sanchez deal.

I'd bet even LOWER than that.. sure, they only have 2 more draftees to pick, but undrafted guys count in that queue too.

UDFA base salaries do not count towards the rookie pool, just their signing bonuses. We gave our guys 2 grand each, so even if they all get cut its only 20K.
