I agree with Kellerman: "You can say Cotto won the fight, but you can't say 116-111, you can't say the last round didn't count."

BULL****. Did you hear that 1 judge that said he had Clottey as the winner, but he made the motional decision for Cotto? WTF@ Emotional decision?

No, that's reality. Cotto won the first round with a knockout, giving him a two point edge. He also clearly won the 12th round as Clottey decided to cruise for some reason.

That means all you need to do was find four other rounds to give to Cotto, not unrealistic as many of the early-mid rounds 2-8 were closely contested and could have gone either way plus Clottey shutting it down early in the 11th.

Its not hard to see how Cotto won the fight on a decision. It is hard to see a 116-111 score, however.

I was watching ESPN and they gave Cotto 5 of the 1st 6 rounds including 10-8 in the 1st.

Clottey playing it safe in the final round cost him this fight. Cotto with the 2 point edge for round 1 + the free final round = Cotto winning the fight in what should have been a very close scorecard.

Cotto deserved to win the fight. I just don't understand the margin.

Agreed on all points.

Personally I gave the fight to Clottey. That first round shouldn't have had a 2-point swing at all. There's no mandatory rules that say a fighter who scores a knockdown automatically wins a round, and being that certainly wasn't a 2-point knockdown and Clottey clearly outboxed him for every part of it but that one millisecond (which he got right back up from), Cotto shouldn't have had that edge. I gave the last two to Cotto and also that one round where he wouldn't let Clottey out of the corner, but Clottey definitely won that fight. He was the aggressor for 90% of it, and Cotto's punches really did no damage for the most part. Just a poorly scored fight from all angles, and for no other reason than the crowd and the arena the fight took place in. I thought it was a very good (not great) fight. Cotto showed a ton of heart, but it's clear that he isn't and won't ever be good enough to compete with Manny or Floyd.

That being said, I'm so impressed with Clottey and how he's come along, the guy's got Winky Wright's defense with Azumah Nelson's strength. Great fighter to watch and study from a technical standpoint.

If you get knocked down I don't care if you dominated the round outside of that. You lose the round and you lose the point for the knockdown IMO.

That said I am becomming a fan of Clottey and he would have won the fight if he didn't pack it in at the end.
