docdhc
What happens if Sanchez shows he needs a year on the bench and Clemens plays lights out this year? With the money they gave the rookie, how can they afford to sign Clemens when his contract is up at the end of the year? He will walk and the Jets will get nothing for him. Franchising him would be super expensive but maybe that would force a team to give up a draft choice to get him. My point is that the Sanchez contract makes Clemens virtually unsignable so the Jets almost have to start Sanchez this year.
GangGreen
Sanchez will be better, so it doesn't matter........
PS17
There is a <1% chance Clemens starts. So he is gone.
docdhc
There is a <1% chance Clemens starts. So he is gone. And the reason for this has nothing to do with who outplays each other in training camp. The finances dictate that Sanchez has to start.

Irish Jet
Non-Issue IMO. Then again, even if he does "Drew Brees it the bit out" as The Troll put it. Look for him to be franchised and traded, in the same way Matt Cassell was.
CoachTsurfing
I hope both of them have great pre-seasons. Then we can trade Clemens. Or have a great back up in case one of them gets hurt.
SenorGato
There is a <1% chance Clemens starts. So he is gone. It's higher than that. And if he does well then we trade him. That's what smart teams have done.
SMC
Well, I can guess doc didn't want the "it doesn't matter" response. So to answer his question, no, the Jets can't afford to re-sign Clemens long-term if Clemens turns out legitimately good. BUT, remember, it all hinges on a new CBA. If there is no new CBA, both Clemens and Leon will NOT be UFA. They will only be restricted FAs. Thus, the Jets would tender Clemens at the highest tender amount (1st & 3rd rounder) and no team would sign him. If there is a new CBA then Clemens would be an UFA and would likely have to be franchized in order to be kept and traded. But the Jets would likely not be able to afford that since they'd need to clear up $15 million in cap space to franchise him.
Borgoguy
There is a <1% chance Clemens starts. So he is gone. It's almost like I can't even stand to hear Clemens' name any more. He had every chance to claim the starting job, but choked.
