I think any NORMAL cop would have kicked it or pushed it away with his baton. I myself don't know any cop who would have shot it.

Agreed totally. I am pretty confident in saying that a vast majority of police officers would have not used lethal force on a 10 pound family pet. PatriotReign37
Why is the dog running loose so he can chase and bite people? WTF? The owners sound like they bear no responsibility here. Even if the dog never bit anyone how is the Cop supposed to know that?

Larz
I've had jobs where I've had to go into peoples yards (pool guy, gas guy) and I've had literally dozens of dogs threaten me with any combination of growling, showing teeth, hair raised on neck/back, the whole 9 my rule of thumb is any dog higher than my knee I take seriously and I never run, turn my back to them or show fear, I stand my ground, show confidence, act like I belong there and don't look them in the eye and slowly mosey my way to safety a guy I know as actually attacked by about 5 mini dobermans, he said it was like a bad video game, he was kicking them and they just just kept coming at him from all directions like a crazed zombie mob all 5 dogs survived without a scratch on them, and he just suffered a wicked adrenaline rush shooting 1 mini daschsund ? that is some weak **** right there
The Gun Of Bavaria
I worked with an idiot once who shot a dog with a shotgun....using buckshot......in a residential area. He put pellets into the dog....and the garage behind it. He got fired a year later for calling in sick, going to an annual boating drunk fest in Lake St. Clair, and as he drove home drunk, he rolled his Explorer down an embankment from a freeway service drive, fled the scene, and left empty beer cans, his blood, Police ID, badge and off-duty gun in the car as he fled. He didn't turn himself in to the agency to the next day. He got fired...........and got his job back a year later in Arbitration. 6 months after that, he got fired again for stealing nude photos of lesbian strippers going down om each other during a rape investigation and then having the audacity to show them around the locker room. Any guesses as to what he does for a living now???

sirlancemehlot
I hate dumb cops. They are in the minority for certain, but they get all the press. And I've got to defend the profession against every idiot who assumes we're all cut from the same cloth. I'll back a brother officer with my life, but I cringe at the stupidity of some. My Doctor once said to me, "I've testified against other doctors in court. You've got to weed out the inept in order to preserve the dignity of the profession." I wouldn't testify if I could avoid it, but man these failures besmirch the good guys like those that died in 9/11, save lives, battle the bad guys...and live in Michigan while rooting for the Jets. The Gun Of Bavaria
How the F does this happen ? Don't they do background checks ? Welcome to the illustrious world of the Police Labor System. The department he works for now isn't exactly the greatest, but nonetheless his first "Firing" doesn't count because the arbitrator ruled what he did while working at my place wasn't worthy of firing. (The infamous "Progressive Discipline Doctrine") LOL When he got his job back after a year and a half, he was allowed to "Resign" in lieu of being fired so he technically wasn't fired 2nd time. His new place most likely knew about it but didn't care. Yeah...I'd want to work there. No matter the fact that he technically committed crimes on both occasions, he never lost his certification.
