Jets Babe
I just spoke with Plaxico Burress' attorney and he asserted his belief that there will not be a trial for Plex until after the 09 season. We are also confident that the NFL will not have grounds to discipline Plex until after the adjudication of his case after this season. It is important to note that Plax was already suspended 5 games in 08 by the Giants after the incident. Also keep in mind that Plex has not been in violation of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy prior to this incident. Now that the legal process is on hold we are hoping to have a deal in place with a team for Plex before training camps start. Hmm...think we're going to sign him? SMC
I voted sign Plax. The Jets should only trade for a player at a discount (since there's a possibility of signing a top WR next year). They need their picks.

They need their picks. + 1. No need to trade picks away with the WR's that are going to be available next year in FA and supposedly uncapped year. This could be a simple signing, 1 year, if you play by the rules, we will think about extending you. Almost a try before you really buy.
Jbro22
I don't do contracts, don't know much about them and who's making what. Is it that much of a pipe dream to think we could get both?
Vicious89x
+ 1. No need to trade picks away with the WR's that are going to be available next year in FA and supposedly uncapped year. This could be a simple signing, 1 year, if you play by the rules, we will think about extending you. Almost a try before you really buy. Essentially, that and if he performs well in a tough division with yet another young QB with a 1 year deal, he could drive up his value in the market after the 1 year deal and get more guaranteed money. We don't even need to resign him if we chose to get a WR in the draft.
Irish Jet
I'll take Plax. Plax + 1st rounder + 3rd rounder > Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin Especially on this team where depth looks like it could be an issue going forward.

Jets Babe
I would want Brandon Marshall over anybody else (he's unhappy in Denver..wants a new deal...FA next year). #2 might be Boldin, but not if he costs more than a 2nd round pick. If the Jets can't get Marshall...(or Boldin for a cheap price), then I think we should sign Plax.

SMC
The News is reporting that the Grand Jury will determine by September 23 whether to indict Plax. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime/2009/06/15/2009-06-15_plaxico_burress_gun_case_delayed_until_september.html So with that date in mind there's really no chance the trial happens during the 2009 season. Bugg
If you sign this guy you're getting into bed with a jerk who sooner or later will step on his___ and foul up your team. If he genuinely a changed guy, that this gun episode had really caused him to change his ways, I'd feel otherwise. But it hasn't. He's a self-abosrbed tool. He won't practice hard, he won't prepare, he will be a daily problem child. Give Jets management this-they aren't doing anything without first talking to Commissioner Goodell and making sure they have this guy for at least 12 games. Lil Bit Special
We need someone else at WR. Plax or Matt Jones for a year then lets see where we're at. Dont trade anything for anyone.

bitonti
few teams if any lose in a championship game because their WR weren't good enough... if you don't have a QB/running game/defense that's a dealbreaker ladies but you can get by with average or worse WR and still win a title. Bears/Giants/Redskins teams of late eighties for example. so Im not really concerned about burress, a team like the bears need him more and will outbid the Jets for him... Vudu
Can we sign him for a minimum or will Rosenhaus start a bidding war between the 3 teams that are interested? Not sure how this works.

JohnnyHector
few teams if any lose in a championship game because their WR weren't good enough... Interesting that you make this point when talking about Burress, when he was by far the most important player in the NFC Championship Game victory over Green Bay... Especially one with a young QB, he's proven that in the past. To me personally, I'd rather have the daily problem of Burress being a tool than having the daily problem of Brad Smith sucking balls. Midget Love 20
As much as I hate Plax as a person/player, its a no brainer. Sign him to a 2 year 11.5 mil deal, so god forbid he goes to jail after this season we'll be eating only a year. If he plays through the contract without legal issues then it gives us the opportunity to sign re-sign him or let him walk
Vudu
Are you serious? C'mon, that was all Eli. You still need someone to catch the ball. Eli pulled the Houdini act but Plax caught the ball and scored the go ahead TD. He deserves credit.

If you're talking about the Houdini play that was David Tyree who caught the ball, not Burress. Plax caught the game winning TD pass though. This dipsheet left a Jints team well on it's way to another NFC title high and dry by shooting himself in the leg. Now he certainly won't do something that stupid again, but he will do dumb things. Under a martinet like Coughlin he was missing meetings and practices all the time. And does anyone for a second cosnder getting shot in the leg might have impacted his speed? Further unless he's coming in on a make good minimum with a slew of incentives, it's pointless. And Rosenhaus is setting this up to be a bidding war for a guy that is facing at least a 4 game suspension this year.
