What do you expect out of Lito Sheppard this season?

Do you think he'll just walk into the #2 corner spot? Or will he have to fight for it... What do you expect from him on the field? Will he be a serviceable corner opposite Revis?

I think this guy will be very good for us, but it is somewhat of a mystery.

I expect him to be a better #2 then we had last year, no more, no less

I expect him to be the best Jets right CB since james hasty. Unfortunately, despite the length of time, that is not that lofty of a mission. Still, it will be a vast improvement.

I truly expect for him to play great like he did in 2007 when he went to the Pro Bowl for the 2nd time in 3 years. People want to think that Lito lost his job because his play dropped off last season when that simply was not the case. Lito lost his job because he kept running his mouth about a new contract and the Eagles, knowing that they were going to try and get rid of him, opted to play the younger corners instead. Now Sheldon Brown will probably lose his job because he is seeking a new deal and being very vocal about it as well. If you open your mouth, the Eagles will bench you.

He will be one of, if not the best, #2 Corners in the NFL. That is my expectations for Lito, especially in another defense that takes the pressure off of the Corners.

People tend to forget how good of a CB Lito Sheppard can be. I'm a huge fan of him, especially here in Philadelphia. People love him. I was begging for us to talk to the Eagles about acquiring him months back before we actually traded for him.

I think Lowery played below average last season. Lito on the other hand, will play much better than that.

He was also injured and his play tailed off considerably as a result. If he can return to form we have something very special, if he can not, we may have another Dyson - which still aint bad.

My good friend is a die-hard E-Gals fan and he loved him. The contract disputes and of course less playing time made it seem as if he wasn't as good anymore, but hes a stud.

I know he will be tried a little more than Revis so if hes up to the challenge, our defense will really be sick..Damn I cant wait for the season to begin. I wouldn't care if we won all of our games 7-3...

I expect him to be another Otis Smith: either returning picks for TD's or getting burned for TD's, with very little middle ground. It'll be up to the Jets' pass rush to determine which happens more.

I think he's a pretty good corner.

I can't speak for the rest of the league but against us (Steelers) Rex used to love leaving his corners one on one with a heavy dose of blitzes.

Yeah he played a lot of teams that way.

He's going to leave Revis on an island pretty often IMO. Something I think revis can deal with. Rhodes will be blitzing a lot more, something he's great at doing.

As for Sheppard - He' very talented but I doubt he'll be what he once was. Injuries have plagued him and they could present further issues. Hopefully not but I'm not overly optimistic about him.

I think that he will have to fight for that position. Rex Ryan doesnt seem like the type of Coach to just throw someone in the mix simply because of their name. He has to really show and prove. At the same time. Lowery (My favorite Jet for some crazy reason) had showed flashes of high potential, but also showed flashes of him being a 4th round pick. I think that with Lowery playing alittle of everything (CB & S) Lito may get the Job, but it will still be based off of effort and earning the job.

I think Lowery gets a bum rap. Anyone playing opposite Revis is Like a cow elephant--they get a ton of balls thrown their way. He did well for a guy with minimal experience, but needs to be coached up a bit more. He certainly didn't suck. As for the rest of the D backfield, don't be surprised if Eric Smith makes a splash--Ryan seems to love him and he's tearing up the place in practice. Lito will suffer the same fate as Lowery did last seaon--but with a few more picks imo.

I'm excited to see how Lowery performs this year. There [probably] won't be the pressure of him being the #2 - starting corner - opposite Revis. He will still play a lot IMO. He DOES have the talent, as we saw last year at times, and now he has the coaching. I think he'll put it together & he will be a factor in the next few years. It will be fun watching him develop.

#2 is his, no question. It's also an improvement, no question. Also, we're paying him a song for '09 ($3 million) and since we extended his contract (rather than sign a new one), we didn't give him a signing bonus so he won't count against the cap going forward if he's a bust and we cut him after the season. I'm not a cap guy, though so maybe I'm wrong about that.

I don't think anyone is really a cap guy at this point because nobody knows if/what the cap will be for 2010. The deal Sheppard signed has a $10M bonus for 2010 which means unless it's an uncapped year AND the Jets really feel like paying him he will be cut or renegotiated.
