Mass. is housing homeless in motels Costing tax payers around $2 million per month

MASSACHUSETTS (WPRI) - A record number of families are being put up in motels in Massachusetts. High unemployment and the rising number of home foreclosures is the reason the state is taking this action.

Housing Massachusetts’ homeless is costing tax payers around $2 million per month. It costs an average of $85 per night to have families, including nearly 1000 children, stay in motels.

The Interagency Council on Housing and Homelessness admits that the use of motels for the homeless is not ideal, but is the best that can be done at this time.

Homeless advocates are worried that families are not getting the support of shelters with living rooms, kitchens, and play areas.

The last line is amazing. Complaining because you're being put up in a hotel - as if anyone in their right mind would rather be in a homeless shelter. Ingrates.

Wow, I don't have a problem with homeless people, but they kind of piss me off now....I've seen beggers on the street with signs saying no food or money or anything, and then I've seen some of them get into really nice cars like BMWs...a lot of them are scammers, and when they finally do get some sympathy, they complain it's not enough. Yeah, there are some people whom it's not their fault, but a lot of homeless people are just high school dropouts and criminals, whom we shouldn't have any sympathy for whatsoever.

There was a proposed program in Philly to require people living in Section 8 housing to work 15 hours a week for the city - cleaning up litter, cleaning up parking lots after Eagles games, etc.

Homeless advocates fought tooth and nail saying that would be "demeaning." So taking free money from the city isn't demeaning but working for it is? Guess what else is demeaning - Kissing my boss' ass day in and day out so I don't get laid off.

Hate to burst your bubble, Counselor, but the homeless are put in hotels in pretty much every state in this great country. I do agree, however, that complaining about the free shelter you are receiving ON MY DIME is infuriating.

"Well Massachusetts isn't dumb because everyone is doing it." Awesome defense.

Every state that does this is moronic. Happy?

Defensive much? Any state with any social program is idiotic in my book.

And about the old chesnut "b-b-b-b-b-but we have to have these programs FOR THE CHILDREN!!!"

If that be true and parents can't properly take care of the children, they should lose them. Throwing money at bad parents won't equal better parenting.

social programs are there to win votes. Politicians dont care for the most part about whats wrong or right, just what will get them elected for another term.

Speaking of failing a child....this story is abhorrent and proves that some parents don't deserve squat. The last month of this beatiful boys life makes me cry. Beyond tragic. Hope the father and the idiot girlfriend die painfully.

Bitching about social programs certainly is political.

And you wonder why your nose smells like ****.

By your definition, everything is political. Bitching about bitching about social programs is political. Bitching about new stadium financing is political. Discussing Maurice Clarett's challenge of the NFL's anti-trust exemption is political.
