BroadwayJ667
First they would need to commit their offense to it. The Jets have the personnel to run it effectively as it would seem. Three competent running backs, receivers that are effective blockers, and an athletic offensive line. The often criticized Brad Smith is integral part to the Jets running the wildcat. He ran it as well as anyone while at Missouri. And has run it well the few times the Jets have used the formation over the past 3 years. Brad can throw the ball, how well remains to be seen, so that could add a dimension to the package should the Jets commit to it. Leon washington could thrive in this package. In the game against New England a couple of years ago he broke a run for 50+ yards from a similar formation. Leon has the quickness and speed to make the runs to the edge work. Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene. The two cement trucks. Thomas has shown he has the burst to get though the line and the vision to find holes in the second level, provided the blocking is good. Shonn is a straight downhill runner and I imagine the results from spreading out a defense via the WC would be to his benefit. The O-line. The Jets are being hailed by some as the best line in football. Whether that is true remains to be seen. But they are athletic enough, and now have some synergy to know where the other memebers are going to be. A declining but still effective Faneca could be an asset to the WC because of his pulling abilities. Brandon Moore is more effective as a run blocker and usually causes trouble when he is able to get to linebackers. Ferguson and Mangold are just now reaching their prime and have each improved every year. Woody proved to be a pleasant surprise for a first time RT. Brian Schottenhiemer. His first year with the Jets he seemed like an innovative and think outside the box kind of OC. Will he return to that kind of OC, now that he may have HC opportunities in the future or that his job may be on the line? Brian is being granted the creative freedom by Rex Ryan. Rex has stated he wants an all-weather offense. could the WC be a part of that term? time will tell. Wheter the Jets will run it is unknown. The NFL is a copycat league, seeing that the Jets have the personnel to run it, it only seems logical that they will attempt to run it.
124
At the Minicamps, which I attended 2 of the 3 days, the Jets on the 2nd day had a portion of practice specifically for the Wildcat. It was 10-15 minutes of ALL Wildcat, using both Leon Washington and Brad Smith "behind center" in the Shotgun, but they mostly used Washington. Signs of things to come or just to prepare against other teams? I think a little bit of both.
Bleed4TheGreen
Well, the Dolphins were the best @ it last year...And now they have Pat White as the man who will be their QB with the Wild Cat with Williams and Brown as their split backs...I'm not sure the Jets can match that. Smith-Leon-Clowney could be worth a shot, but I'm not sure.

Larz
the jets were using "gadget plays" like direct snaps pre- wildcat, so the answer is they were doing it before that wildcat became a fad will they feature it ? my guess is if Leon gets a really big deal, they may very well use him in a way similar to the WC

How do you expect a serious football discussion when you two nancies keep flirting? JiFtheOracle
Not for nothing, but can you guys knock this **** out? How pathetic is it that you live to bash some guy posting on Jets message board? This new DWC actually posts about Football, though its homerific and incredibly long winded, he is actual posting about Football. And the only reason its pissin me of is because Broadway started a good thread and 5 of the posts are a bunch of weirdos going at it completely hijacking an actual thread about Football. The guy obviously took sometime to think and write this out. Anyway... Larz is right. We were using it before it became popular and as much as people want to knock it and Brad Smith...it was fairly successful. The thing about it is that it keeps the D on their toes and also tires them out by making the run sideline to sideline. The one thing we got going for us is that our HC has shutting the Wild Cat down to a science. If Shotty can implement it, Ryan might have a nice take on how to strengthen its weaknesses because he has mastered exploiting them defensively. GodWearsAGrayHoodie
The Wildcat is here to stay. Teams struggled with defending it last season... For a couple of weeks. It really only won them one game. The first game they used it. The Pats were unprepared for it and it was very effective. It the second game against the Pats it was useless and the Patriots smoked the Fins. It was the surprise that made it effective. It won't be nearly as effective this year. I know we had Brad Smith as our QB in 2006 with alot of trick plays but...To me, it was just let Brad Smith try whatever it takes to gain a yard or two, it just wasn't smooth like Miami runs it and to me, it was sloppy and I hated to see it. 124
Rex did dominate the Wildcat last season. Let us hope it was more the scheme than it was the front seven because our front seven is not as good as Baltimore's.

Honestly I think white is a better athlete then smith and will be more elusive. I'm not scared of him but I do think he can run it aginst weaker teams with a poor pass rush. The difference is he can definitely make the throws... But the question will be will he make the proper reads on the run? I think not personally, not yet, not at the NFL level. A little more powerful and elusive then White who was just elusive. As an all around athlete, White has the edge but Smith is pretty damn athletic.
