MagicBizkit87
Someone mentioned this the other day and the more I think of it, the more I like the idea of a trade for Cliff Lee. His value is low, he's not a Cy Young pitcher this year or anywhere near that. I wonder if there would be a way for the Yanks to make a deal with the tribe without getting fleeced. That was me... LOL
PS17
And how can a Red Sox fan talk about high payrolls? You have NO idea what Tampa Bay Ray fans think about the Red Sox and Yankees...For the money you all have, it shouldn't even be a race. There are Tampa Bay Rays fans? CrazyCarl40
You can't tell me the Sawx couldn't use an outfielder....JD Drew is a Mess You can't tell me the Sawx couldn't use another starter...Smoltzie has been a bust thusfar, and who knows about Dice? You need depth....the Yanks made a solid move in picking up Hinske Sawx will do something What would opposing teams do against Beckett, Doc, and Lester in the playoffs? JD Drew is not hitting well right now, sure. He is also being paid 14 or 15 million dollars. I doubt very much that he's moveable. Could he be upgraded? Sure but his price tag doesn't make him benchable. Sox do not need another starter. They have Clay Buchholz, they have Bowden, Dice K is rehabbing and will be back. Wakes should be back. Smoltz is 5 starts into a season with no training camp and coming off major shoulder surgery. The Sox are the last team that needs a starter and would actually like to see them move Brad Penny for something decent. Sox may do something like a lefty specialist out of the pen, but not much else. Halladay has never pitched in the playoffs, so how are we to assume he'd be good there? Sox will be just fine with the starting pitching they have and be able to hold onto their young studs for much longer than a season and 2 months. JonEJet
Sox may do something like a lefty specialist out of the pen, but not much else. The Red Sox have dropped four straight and are out of first place for the first time since June 8. How worried are you about this team? Legitimately worried. I still think this is a playoff team, but the lackluster opening to the second half has me concerned. 41.9% Extremely worried. The Sox aren't hitting at all, they look lethargic ... could the Big Fade be upon us? 31.1% Just a little concerned. Sure, they're not hitting now, but I have no doubt they'll snap out of this funk. The Rangers are a tough opponent. 18.1% Not at all worried. Come on, it's just four games ... this is the best team in baseball, have faith. 8.9% Total votes: 2119 Boston.com's surveys are not scientifically valid. They reflect the opinions of only those who vote Seems as if the rest of Sawx nation has a different opinion than you.....bwa-hahahahhaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahaha
Bleed4TheGreen
Yeah, and in 1997, and 2003 those same people were Florida Marlins fans... lol Thats not true. And you can ask anyone, I've ALWAYS been a die hard Devil-Rays fan (I don't need a winning team to love my teams) Just ask the Knicks and Jets. I also have posts on JI as far back as 2005-Showing my love for the D-Rays....

The question is who the Indians would want in return obviously. Well...Since Cliff Lee just won the cy young award last year, coming off of back to back complete game W's...They may want around the same as the Jays want for Roy. Maybe not that much but still, the Yankees would HAVE to give up a top prospect such as either Hughes or Joba along with another player because Lee is only 30 years of age right now. It's all a matter of how they work the deal, Lee was putrid for the first part of the year and is finally starting to put it together a little bit. I think he has those back to backs but gave up 7 ER 3 games ago, so he's still inconsistent. His market value is lower the Doc's right now. Doc is one of the 2 best pitchers in the game right now, and has done it for years. Lee exploded out of nowhere last year and looks more like "old" Cliff lee then Cy Young Cliff Lee. I'm not a GM but I think we could get him on the cheap comparatively to Doc. I'm not for selling the farm for him though. I don't want to see a Joba/Hughes, Jackson/Montero type of deal for him. Otter
Sox should hope that Clay is going to hold up. Mitre was meh... but we put up the runs. This race will be tight for the rest of the year. The Rays have been just as hot as the Yankees yet can't gain any ground due to the fact we've been playing good ball. Let's not forget we came out of the all-star break down 3. Baseball is an up and down sport. We still need to beat the Red Sox before we pound our chests. We've done fine against the Rays. I'm just excited to watch a fun 3 way race for the top of the AL East. I'm loving the way we've played out of the break though, if Andy can be that great 2nd half pitcher he has been in his career of if Joba has figured it out, 1-4 will be pretty damn good. Then Hughes, Ace and Mo make a pretty nice bullpen. I agree that this is going to a three team battle for the rest of the way. The Yanks, Sox, and Rays are probably 3 of the 4 top teams in the AL and one of them will be on the outside looking in in October. The Yanks are on a nice run but they have to take of business against the Rays and Sox the rest of the season. They have 10 games left with each. Should be fun. Yankees @ Tampa: July 27, 28, 29 Boston @ New York: August 6, 7, 8, 9 Yankees @ Boston: August 21, 22, 23 Tampa @ New York: September 7(DH), 8, 9 Boston @ New York: September 25, 26, 27 New York @ Tampa: October 2, 3, 4 Bad news for the Yanks, they play at the Angels September 21, 22, 23. Guess we should create a 4 game cushion by then if we're still in first We NEED to beat the Red Sox. As long as the Red Sox keep beating us we're just helping to prop them up atop the AL East. At least August will be interesting this year, with the way all 3 teams have kept winning it's really about who's going to give ground first. Boston has gotta right the ship ASAP.
