StillerPaul
Would love to see some objective opinions on this HC. Is he fortunate because he inherited Cowher's drafts, or has he actually began to measure up to great legacy of Steeler HC's? As many here know, i can be a homer at times. But i'm thinking Tomlin has definately made it HIS team with HIS brand of football. I can give examples too. The division clinching win in Baltimore and The Super Bowl. Both cases had us down 3 deep inside opponents territory. Both cases he continues to let Ben throw for the TD. I firmly believe Cowher would have gone conservative and played for OT instead of risking turnover. But this does not confirm Tomlin's coacing skills in ways still. What say's you guys? PS17
Best HC in the NFL besides Belichick. I see him as already surpassing Cowher. As you said, Tomlin plays to win. He gets those players fired up which is great. And he's young! Young, smart football mind. Wouldn't be surprised to see Tomlin and Big Ben win another 2 Super Bowls. That's how good I think he is. SenorGato
I love Tomlin, but personally I think being the HC of the Steelers is like "base" in tag for a HC. That franchise just knows what they're doing. He's awesome though and I can't wait to see that D with Timmons...especially when they get McOwned by the Rexgressive Squad. He's pretty much what I'd want (personality wise) if I was looking for a young HC...that dude is inteeeense.
hoping4ASuperBowl
Obviously Tomlin fell into a perfect situation with the stellar cast around him, not to mention having the best 3-4 DC in the game today. I don't know much about Tomlin but it definitely seems the team is stronger with Tomlin as HC. Thats just my opinion though.

This franchise is so good when observing talent that as a coach I dont think that they look primarily at the typical coaching skills, I think the coaches style and personality is a very major part. The Steelers have ALWAYS been a very "nasty" team. They are very gritty and you must have a coach that can match that type of intensity and I think this is how the steelers and Tomlin are doing it. Its like poetic justice out there in relation to the players and the coach relationship. I think Tomilin is simply in a perfect fit. He has a great chance given his age to be a coaching legend in pittsburg and a HOF coach in the NFL. Good luck to him.
Irish Jet
I like him, love his attitude. I remember hearing an interview before last season about the difficult schedule the Steelers would face and you could just tell by his response that he was expecting that team to go through every single one. IMO that's the kind of attitude and influence that Ryan is looking to employ here. You need more time to judge him though, not ready to call him one of the best in the league just yet. To say he had a solid foundation to build around when he took over is an understatement. There was never going to be a rebuilding process with that team. When he has to restructure that team (for example when guys like Ben and Polamalu get on a bit) he'll really show what he can do.

JETfrmWOMBtoTOMB
Tomlin may have already proven to be a better gameday coach and motivator than Cowher. The only thing Cowher has over him at the moment, I think, is developing the talent on the team. And he's about 2 years from taking that title from him as well. You can say what you want but it seems it doesn't really matter how good your team is if ur coach/coaching staff sucks. Look at San Diego and Dallas for example. Those rosters have been loaded but they haven't won squat. Conversely, a great coach can make his team overachieve. Nowhere is the Head Coach more crucial than in football. You are tied for the best coach and staff in the entire league in my opinion right now. The difference is... Tomlin did it when he was younger than Bellichicken so he will wipe out what mumbles did easily if he keeps going at this rate...

Maxman
He's living on what Bill Cowher and Dick LeBeau created for him. I have to agree. I think his personality is motivating people and he gets credit for that. But he will be judged on what he does when LeBeau turns 104 and decides he wants to retire. Ghost
Mike Tomlin is one my favorite coach besides Rex. I just think he fell into a PERFECT situation. He had a franchise QB and the best defense in the NFL. However, what I like about him the most is he never puts his head down no matter what the score is. He will always encourage his players that they are still in the game. I see him clapping sometimes after the opposing team scores.

Um isnt that what the players are supposed to do? This post makes absolutely no sense. People are making a big deal out of the fact that he inherited a good team. The point is he couldve ran the car off the road just as well but he didnt, instead he went out and won a superbowl. I think you guys are grossly underrating Tomlin. Garb
I HATE Mike Tomlin. I HATE him....I have no idea why he provokes such emotions in me - but I really, really can't stand the guy. Seeing him on TV - standing on the sidelines - makes me nuts. In all of sports - Mike Tomlin is the one person I hate the most. Perhaps some fear of BB meeting his match ?? But the question was what's your objective opinion of him as HC of the Steelers, not whether u like him or not.... On LeBeau retiring: From everything i've heard, Tomlin will switch us to the 4-3 after he retires. Drafting guys like Ziggy Hood seems to be an indicator to most Pittsburgh media observers. Agree with those who say he inerited a good team full of Cowher picks. That's what makes it so hard to guage him. There were many Steelers fans upset last year with them letting Faneca walk, and not drafting OL early.

glenn31
I always find it funny when people in general try to devalue the accomplishments of coaches who take over teams that are already in good shape and win with them. What were they supposed to do, blow the team up and start over? I hear people do this with George Seifert's name all the time (unjustly) and I just pray Tomlin isn't heading down that road. I don't have stats on me, but I'm pretty sure most "next" coaches don't continue the work of their legendary predecessors even after inheriting stacked rosters. SMC
Omar Epps is a good enough HC not to screw up a good thing. He had a great DC and a good defense, so he kept them. He has a good young QB so he lets him make plays. Sometimes being "good enough" is all you need to be.

When Fitzgerald scored that big touchdown in the SB, you think Tomlin didn't say anything to his guys? I know that's what all the coaches would do, but he makes it seem like the Steelers will win every game no matter what happens. His players trust him and he trusts his players.
