Lil Bit Special
Anybody have second thoughts about Willie? No. Willie sucked as a manager. He couldnt get anything out of his stars. He was a terrible game manager.
T0mShane
Anybody have second thoughts about Willie? No, Willie was a brutal manager who couldn't take criticism to save his life. He was a NY sports icon who was completely unprepared for the backlash he would receive if/when the heat was on. Ultimately, that killed him. The Bernazard fiasco, and Bernazard's interference in Willie's performance here, was a sideshow, but not what ultimately ruined him.

But to his credit he tried to discipline Reyes for not running out grounders and popups and showing up the opposition, and he was overruled by Minaya and Bernazard. Doubt it would've made much difference, but we'll never know. As a game manager and in his dealings with the media(a must in NY) he was not up to snuff. Good to hear that Reyes is spending his hot summer nights in dance clubs to the wee hours boogeying his hammy back to full health. Soon he may actually play some baseball. Wouldn't that be special? Just another example of the high quality of Minaya's player development skills. This organizytion needs to be blown up or sold or both.

ANd the fact that Manuel does not, or will not, punish the players for ANYTHING is a disgrace. When Fernando freaking Martinez can be allowed to dog it on a pop-up without recompense, you know you need a major organizational shift in philosophy.
