Ham made a great point yesterday as I was hanging @ JI essentially saying that Clemens has to win this job outright and by a mile to get it otherwise it's Sanchez. I think he's right, KC keeps making boneheaded plays that give the ball away. That's the difference between a 15 and under draft pick and the playoffs-ask Brett Favre last year...

Clemens needs to stop throwing at Revis.

He's Killing himself.

He's practicing for the inevitable - when the coaching staff realizes the Jets WR corps sucks and they make Revis play both ways. They're building chemistry for that day as we speak... Clemens is a visionary.

I've been saying that all along here, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. If it's close there are just too many factors in favor of Sanchez not to give him the nod. Ryan/Schotty are wisely limiting Sanchez' first team reps while he gets up to speed. That's skewing the stats in his favor early, IMHO. We'll have a better feel for this competition once the reps are split about evenly. Considering how short camp is, that should be by the end of the week.

The same point has been made here numerous times. I think Ham needs to change his name to Captain Obvious.

The New York Jets Twitter page just reported that Rookie S Keith Fitzhugh is scheduled to get an MRI on his shoulder.

Also, Adam Shefter and Peter King are doing a radio show/segment with Randy Lange and Eric Allen that should be up tonight on NewYorkJets.com.

I'm starting to think that no matter what, Kellen needs to start day 1. We are not going to be very good this year...maybe 7-9, at best 8-8. We will be competitive and lose a lot of close games. That said, we might start the season 1-3. We cant have that be on Sanchez because then everyone will be screaming for the back up, Kellen Clemens. This CANT happen...CANT. And unfortunately, I think it will.

Kellen needs to be our starter day 1, no matter what.

that was my thinking too JiF but Clemens is throwing a bunch of picks and we all know how that kind of quarterbacking can kill a team on a playoff run

I would think the opposite would happen. I can't speak for everybody, but I would be alot more forgiving of Sanchez a 3 interception performance that potentially cost us a game than I would be of Clemens. At least with Sanchez, he's a rookie and you could argue he'll get better.

I also think if we're going in with a 7-9 to 8-8 mindset, then why even bother with Clemens? Most of the arguments for Clemens would be to "win now" but if we're going to be 7-9 anyway, what's the point? The only way you start Clemens under that scenario is if you think Sanchez's confidence would get destroyed, but everybody always talks about how mentally tough Sanchez is anyway, so I would think that wouldn't be reason enough.

Thats the thing my man, we're not making a playoff run this year. I just dont see it happening. Our schedule is brutal and we are inexperienced at the 2 most important spots on the team, QB and HC.

Our Qb's are going to struggle all year because we dont have WR's that can get separation. We are going to have to win on great defense and a dominate running game. We have too competitive of a schedule to make a playoff run relying on that alone.

Its a win/win if you start Kellen. If he plays well, awesome! Then we have a Anderson/Quinn situation. If he sucks dick, great, then our franchise savior can come in and if he struggles, then at least it can be said that Kellen did no better.

We MUST start Kellen Clemens day 1 because if Sanchez comes out the gates 1-3, mutiny will begin and that is the worst thing possible for a rookie Qb and rookie HC.

If Sanchez losses the first 3 games of the season, I guarantee you will start to hear put in Clemens.

I dont care about the situation, we can all take about development yadayada all we want, but when its all said and done and a rookie HC the 6th overa all pick is 0-3 out the gates (with all this talent) you best believe that people are going to be screaming for something and generally its the back-up QB.

I don't know man. Two teams made the playoffs last year with rookie HCs and rookie QBs and both were sub .500 teams in '07.

We were 9-7 last year with more ProBowlers than any team in the NFL and all but one is returning.

If Clemens plays like dog**** in camp we must NOT start him.

I agree in the sense that this fanbase will lose their **** if Sanchez sucks the first 3 games.

Unfortunately this season with whoever is at QB will require something most of us do not have. Patience.

You're right that an 0-3 start with Sanchez would have irrational fans screaming. However, I'd say that that an 0-3 start with Clemens would have more people screaming ("Hey if we're going to lose, why not put the kid in?"). God help him if a Clemens turnover is responsible for any of those losses (and triple that if it costs us the New England game).

Yes, this did happen and I'm not saying we dont have a shot, I just see it highly unlikely.

Atlanta didnt really have a choice and Flacco didnt start right off the bat. We have the luxury of not having to start Sanchez right off the bat. IMO, we start Clemens no matter what...but what do I know?

Yep, doesnt matter who is under center and how many games they have played under center...they will get murdered if we start out the gates 0-3 or 1-4 or whatever. There will be some who use the Peyton Manning/Troy Aikman examples of success, but most will be cursing to the high heavens. This is NY...dont put that type of pressure on the kid.

Thats my point, and 0-3 start for Clemens gives Sanchez the opportunity to come in and play like dog**** with nobody to say..."why not put Kellen in"....no pressure and no expectations.

Just one mans opinion.

Is starting Clemens after he throws 100 picks during camp a really a viable option in your mind?

People need to get over this irrational fear of Sanchez sucking. Yes it would be bad to go 0-3 and have people chanting for Clemens, but we have to put the best man for the job in the drivers seat and live with the consequences. It looks like Sanchez and that is the best we can hope for. I'm sure we will have another WR by the opener, we've done a good job addressing weaknesses the last couple of years.

And if we're going to succeed under Sanchez he's got to be built of thicker skin. No one is talking about our great Oline and three headed running attack. Couple that with a Defense that is going to keep games close and create turnover opportunities for the offense and we will can compete in every game. Talk about taking the pressure off.

Worst case-scenario is we suck, we draft high next season, Sanchez will have substantially more experience, and we'll know what we've got by the end of the season. If we rock then we rock. At least we would go into next season with less question-marks for once. It's a simple case of win-win. If he wins the job Sanchez gets the start.
