faba
Bucs' Slim Cap Can't Hold Feely By KATHERINE SMITH Published: Mar 7, 2005 TAMPA - Bucs general manager Bruce Allen joked last week the team should hang a ``job opening'' sign up for kickers. That job comes with a price though, and for former Atlanta kicker Jay Feely, the price was too low. Feely agreed to terms with the New York Giants Sunday. ``I would have loved to have come home to Tampa and played for the Bucs,'' said Feely, a former Jesuit standout. ``But after talking with them, I knew with their salary cap situation we wouldn't be able to work it out.'' Tampa Bay has approximately $3 million in cap room - not enough to sign another kicker while there are still unresolved issues at the wide receiver and tight end positions. The Bucs have three kickers on the roster, including former Giants kicker Matt Bryant, who was signed last week. Given the team's last-place ranking in field goal percentage the past two seasons, the kicking position is somewhat of a priority, however one that could fit in the confines of the Bucs' salary cap situation. In other free agency news, former Bucs quarterback Brad Johnson's chances of regaining a starting job diminished by Sunday when the Arizona Cardinals signed Kurt Warner to a one-year contract. Johnson, who once played for Cardinals coach Dennis Green in Minnesota, is scheduled to visit the Detroit Lions on Wednesday. He's competing with other veteran arms, including Jeff Garcia and Jay Fiedler, for limited spots. Former Seattle Seahawk Itula Mili, one of several tight ends the Bucs are talking to, visited with the New Orleans Saints Sunday.< < According to this Feely has signed with the Giants taking him off the market. faba
#26 Dwight Smith TACK 67 FF 1 INT 5 Height: 5-10 Weight: 201 lbs. Pos: Safety Age: 26 Born: August 13, 1978, Detroit, MI Drafted: 2001, 3rd Round, 22nd Pick by Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Experience: 4 years College: Akron Scouts Inc. Scouting Report Profile | Statistics | Splits | Game Log | Search: ESPN | Web 2004 Scouting Report - Football Scouts Inc. Name: Dwight Smith Position: Safety Grade: 68 | Key Alert: B Comment: Smith is a good athlete but he is short and compact. However, he is physical, he likes to push receivers out of their routes and tries to intimidate. He is tough and strong for his size and is also very aggressive. Doesn't always seem to play with a lot of confidence, at times you get the feeling that he is playing soft in an effort not to give up big plays, and yet he still does. He appears to have good ball skills as a corner, and yet he will get turned around and doesn't always show the ability to recover. Technique is inconsistent. Has good versatility and can play both safety and corner for this defense. Lacks the size to play in the box and doesn't have the height to matchup as a corner in the vertical passing game. Smith may best fit in the nickel package as a corner covering slot receivers. One advantage that he gives this defense is that if the Bucs want to adjust their cover 2 scheme, and he is capable of playing pretty good man to man schemes from the safety position. His versatility is an asset but starting him back deep may not be a great fit. Ham I like the nice touch with appropriate busts on Couch and Dayne! Miller at tackle I read in today's Chicago paper looks very likely to sign with the Bears. Unfortunately the best talent out there by position happens to be our strength- linebackers Hartwell, Polley and Bell would all be good additions Listed scouting report on Smith - tough physical player
TomShane
GJ&H's REMAINING UFA's {worth mentioning} ===================== OLB Tommy Polley~ Super-fast LB could come in and make alot of plays in Donnie's scheme. Him, Vilma and Barton would be a frightening, lightning-quick bunch. CB Ty Law ~Vet with a chip on his shoulder would bring an attitude, toughness and skills. I like him better than Smoot based solely on his intangibles. ===================== SS Kenoy Kennedy~One of the hardest hitters in the league would combine with ballhawk Erik Coleman to b a great safety combo. FS Dexter Jackson~Would be another direction for the SS slot. Not a gerat hitter, but a ballhawk who could combine with Coleman to get 15-18 picks. ===================== DT Marcus Bell ~Much needed size in the middle. Not a stud, but a better option than Lance Legree for 30 snaps. DT Tony Williams~Tough, hustling player. ===================== QB Jay Fiedler~When Chad missed his 4 annual games this year, I'd feel comfortable putting the ball in Fiedler's hands. He's not afraid of NE. ===================== WR Plaxico Burress ~Huge wideout would cause big match-up problems for people. Wouldn't have to be the #1 receiver, but could come in and stretch the field for Coles and McCareins. WR Corey Bradford~Inconsistent speedster caught in numbers jam in Houston, Bradford could be a nice sleeper FA. WR Tim Dwight~Scrappy, fast return man to replace Santana. TE Chad Lewis~IMO, could be our biggest signing. He's old, but gets open and catches everything.
Jetsfan80
SS Dwight Smith RT Stockar McDougle PK Joe Nedney Among that list, the 3 players above are the UFA's I want in Green & White. If Bradway makes it happen, we can draft Anttaj Hawthorne, Bryant McFadden, Ryan Moats and call it an offseason.
