Bonilla signed a 5 year, $29 million contract before the '92 season. That year, the Mets had 3 of the top-10 highest paid players in the NL (Bonilla, Gooden, Cone) and managed a whopping 72 wins. The following season, "The Worst Team Money Could Buy" lost 103 games. He was far from the worst player from a strictly statistical standpoint, but he was certainly one of the, if not the worst FA signing in Mets history.
