My first car that was all mine was a new 95 rio red mustang, got it the summer I graduated highschhool as a 2 year lease. I was working a lot on weekends and stupid with my money, some things never change, so I got the biggest jerkoff car possible.

I made the first 4-5 payments then got diagnosed with the big c and had to drop out of school and work so my father was cool about making the rest of the payments.

I had my license suspended for a few years and warrents in every state from here to dc because of that car

in the burbs, it means mom and dad dont have to drive to or pick up from practice, drive kid to movies or whatever...

Its parents in burbs 1st crack at some 'me' time after a long dry spell :D

Bingo plus he wants to get a job next summer to support his video game habit.

He is an only child therefore he gets the spoils of being an only child.

He has been practicing -- so far so good and he will have time to practice with this one before I let him go solo. We want him to have a car that will last awhile. (fingers crossed). Plus he is quite responsible for his age.

bought my 1988 jeep comanche for $400. it was the first thing i didnt need my parents for. i searched for it, i test drove it, i did the body work on it. it signified me growing up. it had 188,000 miles on it, but she was mine. i called her daisy and put a dixie horn in her and didnt i feel like the man. Everytime i would arrive someplace i would flip the switch for the horn and it would sound like the general lee was pulling up.

i wish i didnt have to get rid of her. still regret it to this day.

congrats on the car.

man that's alot of money to waste on a kids first car. especially a 16 year old. well good luck with it though......like has been said, at 16 i don't care how much practice you think he's had...he's almost guaranteed to crash it. hopefully not a serious one...but that car will be worth nothing pretty soon...if it's even driveable in a year.

i bought my first car (actually a toyota truck) for $250. it was a bomb but i drove that mutha everywhere. i eventually wrecked it. i was 17. my 2 younger borthers....my parents have bought them a few cars......plenty of accidents. everyone i grew up with basically crashed at least their first car. some alot more than that. thats why when my kids get old enough they get a cheap but safe car to drive until they have a couple of years of driving under their belts.

nah, you'll thank her someday for not spoiling you. It builds character

No argument here. But I was the youngest boy of 4 kids all I ever got were handmedowns and sometimes even wore the neighbor kids clothes. as for the money I see lots of kids in my kids HS with brand new cars -- now thats spoiled. anyway only time will tell and if something goes wrong I will post it. (again fingers crossed)
