PFSIKH 101,506 Posted November 5, 2009 The overall issue with no salary cap is something that Baseball needs to face someday soon. But under the current rules, and with all the revenue sharing, it isn't just about $$ anymore. Congrats on the title, but let's be serious. Has there ever been a team that had the following happen to them: Their number 1 and 2 starters have month long stretches where they had over 6 ERAs. Had 1 win from their #3 starter through August. Lost their #4 in July for over a month and got 0 wins from him after July 8th. Had an eclectic collection of crappy picthers fill out 3-5 spots and spit out ERAs of: 5.61, 8.32, 5.82 and 7.46. Had a bullpen that blew way too many games where given large leads. Their best power hitter had two months where he couldn't hit Dustin Pedroia's weight. Their former best power could not hit Jason Bay's wieght nor did he have any power. Their starting catcher hit .209. Had a collection of SSs that could either hit, sort of, or field, again sort of, but rarely both. And still win 95 games. Money is not the only factor, but it is a pretty big one. PFSIKH 101,506 Posted November 5, 2009 Money spent poorly, no? Key word...money spent. If that happened to the Royals, they went 27 games.
PFSIKH 101,506 Posted November 5, 2009 BOOO FRIGGIN' HOO The Yankees have dealt with injuries in the past. Injuries are part of the game, not an excuse. You are an idiot. This wa not about the Yankees you dumb ass. It is about money. No team should win 95 games when going through that, but money is a wonderful elixir..
PFSIKH 101,506 Posted November 8, 2009 You know what pisses me off about the Yankees spending......the fact that the Tigers are 4 spots away from them and didn't even make the EFFING playoffs. 4 spots is nothing It is the 86 million that is the issue. What could the Tigers do with 86 million more in salary? A decent C? SS? 3B? Closer? CF? DH? 4th or 5th starter?
