Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox

It must be difficult being a supporter of the Boston Pittsburgh Red Sox and we certainly understand your fan-wide outcry over the Yankees payroll. May God bless you in your fight against teams that have their own regional cable sports networks, charge the highest ticket prices, spend over slot in the amateur draft[15 mil this year, 8 mil on 1 player in the international draft], trade mistakes away by picking up huge chunks of player contracts[Lugo lol], and spend tens of millions just to talk to overseas pitchers[51 mil]. You are a beacon of hope for small-market teams everywhere. --NoMaas

Maybe if John Henry wasn't so busy tweeting you'd have actually had a chance this year. :baby:

How are the BloSux the team of the decade?

The Yanks and Sox won the same number of World Series, the Yanks won four pennants to the Sox' two and the Yanks won the division eight times and Sox won it once. Oh and the Yankees won more games than any team in Major League Baseball over the past 10 years.

It's not really debateable at all. The Yankees were the team of the decade.... again.

this would be impressive if they didn't dwarf every other teams payroll during this time as well. sorry i just don't find it impressive that the team who has routinely spent at least 50 million more/year. that said.....yankees fans have no control over that. and if the nfl goes uncapped and, sya, the jets had the highest payroll by millions and millions it's not like i would stop liking the team.

This is becoming a lamer excuse by the day.

Did you know that more different teams played in the World Series this decade than in any other sport that has a salary cap?

The reality doesn't reflect the claim that spending money = success.

Aside from Tampa Bay last season, how many World Series teams (winners or losers) were in the lower tier in payroll? You won't find many.

Please tell me there is another sport where at the opening pitch of the first game of the season that about half of the teams are already eliminated from being serious postseason contenders.

Spending money does equal success, plain and simple. If success is winning games and having a chance at the playoffs, then you have to spend the money.

And as far as the first post is concerned, I don't know who wrote that the Sox have the most expensive tickets, but it obviously doesn't matter since they sell out every game, unlike the new monstrosity that is Yankee Stadium.

You can predict the NBA playoffs before the season starts

i don't care if you think it's lame. i expect you to think that.....it's your team. but the reality is that almost every non-yankees fan feels the same way. i'm not saying they're not the champs....but it doesn't impress me when the team who pays the most money to get the best players every year wins.....that's what they should do. besides...you justy explained to us all why the yankees are the "team of the decade"......question which team spent the most money on their payroll in that time period? and by what margin did they outspend the second highest team? because by your claim you just proved that the team that spent way way way way more than everyone else is now the team of the decade.

You'll never get a teams fanbase to care what other teams fans think.

I dont think Yankee fans need the nod of approval from anyone else to enjoy a championship season.

1. So? Can a billion people be wrong? Why yes, yes they can.

2. But they don't, so it's a nonsensical point.

Ask a Redskins fan or a Knicks fan if spending money equals success.

You can't buy a championship. There are too many variables in race to 4 wins. It's very possible that your 20 million dollar pitcher has a bad outting, which shifts the balance enough that in a small enough scale, either team can win.

However, it's absurd not to acknowledge that spending money = wins in major league baseball. In a large enough sample size, say, like 162 games, in the sport which is the least 'team' game of all the major sports, the best players are going to win the most games, and those best players are routinely purchased.

The Redskins and the Yankees have nothing in common, because winning games in football and baseball have nothing in common. You can't neutralize the threat of Alex Rodriguez like you can Albert Haynesworth.

Your stupidity knows no limits.

The Skins and the Knicks play within the constraints of a salary cap. One a hard cap and the other a soft cap. While they have been free spenders, they do have some limits to what they can actually do.

The Yankees do not.

Good to see that taliass maintains the Yankee Nation streak of remaining classless.

All valid points.

However, the Yankees don't win the WS without CC, Tex and AJ.

So one can make the argument that they bought this championship.

Or you can say that they re-invested their money from the Mussina, Giambi, Pavano's contracts expiring back into the team.

Something alot of other teams DON'T do.

Here is the bottom line like it or not.

For teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Cubs, Dodgers, Angels the window never closes because of their money.

Teams like Minnesota, Cleveland, Oakland do enough with their resources to have a window if they miss then they basically have to start over.

Then you have the teams like the Pirates and the Royals who don't give a sh!t about winning just turning a profit.

These Sawx fans act as if Ortizzle, Manny, Veritek, Beckett, Bay, Matsuzaka, ect are home grown talents

They played for the Sawx because they were paid the most by the Sawx

Really? I thought they played for the Sox because they had a higher sense of purpose and performed a noble act by playing for the "underdog."

Varitek, Beckett, and Bay play for the Sox because they traded for them. Ortiz was a nobody when the Sox took a flier on him, they got lucky when he started using eye drops.

Manny and Dice-K cost an exorbitant amount of money, this is true. Without Manny, the Sox don't win either WS. It was a move that needed to be made in order to compete with the Yanks.

I have no problem with it. The Yankees use their considerable resources to gain an advantage. It's all within the rules of the game. The Sox do the same. They just don't have the same resources as the Yanks. Which is why A-Rod and Tex are Yankees. The Sox have a ceiling, the Yanks do not.

A Red Sox fan giving a Yankees fan crap about how much money his team spends is like John Wayne Gacy chastising Ted Bundy for killing too many people.

No idiot....I am giving a Skank fan $hit because of there absolute refusal to believe money does not have a lot to do with their success.

I could have used the Yankees as an example, but I choose my team which I fully admit has an economic advantage over 75% of the league. And if they did not have money, those 6 or 7 examples I gave, they would have been at the very least a 100 loss team.

Stop the colonoscopy and take your head out of your ass.

Actually no one is saying that money has nothing to do with their success my addle-minded, sweetly-retarded friend.

You're doing what you usually do and are arguing a point that no one is making.

The Yankees spend a lot of money. That is a given. The point is that money alone doesn't win you anything.

Speaking from 30+ years experience of following the Yankees, I can tell you how frustrating it is to watch your team spend money poorly.

Getting all the best players doesn't guarantee you will win a championship. Especially if those players play like a bunch of individuals and not as a team.

Ask any Yankees fan who watched this team play this year, the difference between this team and the Yankees of the last seven or eight years is that this team came together as a team early in the season.

And baseball has been that way forever. There have been times when teams like the Pirates and Royals moved into that 2nd tier, but their current ownership prefers to pocket the Yanks' revenue-sharing check rather than put that talent on the field. Oh, the poor, poor Royals-owned by the Glass family, who are desendants and shareholders in Ol'Sam Walton's mom&pop outfit called Walmart.

As to all the payroll whiners-would you prefer the Steinbrenners put the mony in their bank accounts rather than spend it on players? DOn't bitch about them spending the money on the team unless you're okay with them keeping the revenue. Steinbrenner was wise enough to create his own sports channel and push for a new stadium(which personally an NYC taxpayer I find myself being ambivalent).

And he bought the best franchise in 1973 rather than the Indians. So before anyone starts the socialist crap, don't fault the man for investing wisely. If you're dumb enough to buy the Pirates and dumber still to run them poorly don't cry the Yankees should cut you a check like your a partner.

Well I wasn't one of them Thor. So I don't appreciate a midwestern Chowd calling Yankees fans classless when replying to one of my posts.

There was a post in one of the other Yankee threads the last couple of days where a Red Sox fan, possibly from another site, made an incredible insensitive comment about celebrating Lidle's death.

Actually, the organization Steinbrenner bought in 1973 was in total disarray. He brought the greatest brand name in all of sports and resurrected it.

What % would you say attributes to winning?

Money does not guarentee you a championship for the reasons I pointed out, but in baseball, when you spend double what the next team does, it pretty much guarentees you being a perenial contender. The rest, it seems, is a lot of luck, and getting hot at the right time.
