Bleedin Green
Full article: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4818624 Woodson named top defensive player Associated Press NEW YORK -- Green Bay cornerback Charles Woodson has won The Associated Press 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. The versatile Woodson tied for the league lead with nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, and was a key to the Packers' turnaround on defense. His role in Green Bay's performance -- second in the league in overall defense, first in interceptions (30), takeaways (40) and turnover margin (plus-24) -- earned Woodson 28 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the NFL. He doubled the number of votes for New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis in becoming the first Green Bay winner since Reggie White in 1998 and just the second Packer in the 36-year history of the award. JMJ
Not a fan of this. Revis is a victim of his own talent. Rex himself said that Green Bay uses Woodson to do a ton of things like blitz, hang in zone coverage where he can read a QBs eyes and try to make a jump on intercepting passses, etc. He said in some ways it is unfair to Revis because he is capable of doing all those same things as good or better than anybody but since he is just such a lockdown CB that they don't give him the opportunity. They strictly tell him to go out there and take the opposing team's #1 WR completely out of the game which he does every week. He said that if Woodson was able to do that then Green Bay would do the same with him, but since he can't, he gets the opportunity to do things Revis does not. Revis > Woodson and that has NOTHING to do with being a homer. Edited January 12, 2010 by JMJ
SoFlaJets
as Shane said the other day it's an appreciation for a good long career thing-Revis had a great season, perhaps the best coverage season by a CB that I've ever seen
SMC
Oh well. Woodson did a wonderful job helping the Packers defense against the Steelers and the Cardinals.
124
Adam Schefter reporting on Twitter that Woodson received 24 votes to Revis' 14. He also added: Adam_Schefter And right there is the ultimate proof as to why it would be better to wait until the end of the season before voting on these awards. The Gun Of Bavaria
ABSOLUTE DISGRACE AND JOKE
dolphann4life
This is a rob job. Revis was clearly the most disruptive force to an opposing team on defense. Should have been DPOTY
Klecko73isGod
This is a joke, right?
SMC
I'd love to hear what Rex has to say about this in his presser.
AGAW
I'd love to hear what Rex has to say about this in his presser. If he doesn't mention Warner having a basically perfect performance against the DPOY and his "#2" D, I'll be disappointed...
Klecko73isGod
I'd love to hear what Rex has to say about this in his presser. I'm sure he'll make some kind of smartass remark about Woodson's D giving up a 29 for 33, 379-yard, 5-TD performance on Sunday while Revis shut down yet another Pro-Bowl WR. Bleedin Green
I'd love to hear what Rex has to say about this in his presser. My guess is he'll make a remark to the extent that he's sure that Revis prefers to still be competing in the playoffs. That is of course, after telling everyone all of the reasons why Revis should have won.
Aten
This is not some unique tragedy. All it shows is that the writers are every bit as overreliant on hearsay and traditional stats as everybody else. Justin Smith was one of the best players in the league this year and I doubt he even got one vote.
Integrity28
Fuel to the fire. I'm sure Revis would much rather be the SuperBowl MVP. Woodson... 45 points and an early exit from the playoffs.

serphnx
Even the opposing team's fan on here says Revis should have won. Maybe they should have had fan voting. Didn't Revis win the USA Today one or something?
Bleedin Green
The silver lining is that this should knock off a few bucks come time for contract negotiations.

Irish Jet
Awful just awful. Sucks because contrary to what some may think that will probably be Revis' last real shot at the award. ****ing idiots, he's so much better than Woodson it's not even funny. The funny part is that, for the most part, those who would agree with this very point are probably the same people who complain that FO or PFF are too much over-analysis. neckdemon
there should be an afc and nfc award first of all........second i don't need to see revis win the award to know that he's a better cb than woodson hands down.

Barton
Rex should make up an award, say its better, and give it to Revis.
LWC611
I bet Woodson would rather come in second and still be playing like Revis is, so I would not let this get us down folks.....
