A report surfaced Wednesday from Newsday that the Jets plan to place the highest tender on Edwards, meaning a team would have to give up first- and third-round picks if it wanted Edwards. And a big contract. No team is going to give up that much for the talented but erratic receiver, so Edwards should stay in Gotham. Braylon is on board. "I hadn't heard anything about it, but if that's something they're definitely doing, I'm excited," Edwards said. "I love playing here and I love the atmosphere around here. . . . If that's what's going on, I would be extremely happy and proud to be a Jet for years to come." (Well, it's just one year.) That approach is a little easier for Edwards to adopt because he's already pocketed one huge contract. lawngnome o-line Posted January 21, 2010 Share Posted January 21, 2010 Edwards does three big things besides catching the ball (or not catching, but let's not argue that now) 1. Draws one less safety into the box for the run. Since most teams will not allow 1v1 coverage on him, although that safety may then commit to the run after the handoff, him being outside allows for the safety to not be all the way in the box to stuff the run. 2. He has proven to be a good blocker on the outside and has used his size effectively. 3. He is a team player and a good guy in the locker room. There has been no reports of any issues with him up to this point, and it is clear he has been a "team guy" through his work ethic and helping of Sanchez and other players. He is worth a one year flyer, which will give the league time to get its collective bargaining situation fixed, and the Jets 1 more year to re-evaluate his value. He's not going to get nearly the deal he could get after next year if he somehow figures out how to catch the ball. He's valuable, but his stock is low right now. He is costing himself millions of dollars in a long term contract. He does block very well and catches some passes that are difficult and he is a good teammate. They guy is pretty amazing considering he can;t catch a football yet the other team STILL has to plan for him just in case he does catches it. I hope he stays and I really think as he gets comfortable he will start catching the ball better, and if he doesn;t the other team still has to run with him. I'm sure it's primarily mental. A full offseason with the QB should help him some. As long as Braylon understands that he really is having problems dropping the ball and is interested in doing whatever has to be done to correct the problem, it can be corrected. Or maybe he just needs glasses. Nice reference. I just watched that movie for the 27th time the other night. I agree it's gotta to be predominantly mental. This is why I think getting pass that lawsuit may help, and hopefully we'll see a more focused and consistent Braylon in the playoffs.
