Nice Newsday article, bolded a couple quoted I hadn't seen elsewhere:

Cromartie: "I'm not going to let them down"

4:51 PM By Roderick Boone

The Pro Bowl cornerback who was on the outs in San Diego is now a officially a member of the Jets, having been shipped here from the West Coast for a 2011 third-round pick. Cromartie is eager for his new opportunity and expects to be in town by March 22 when the Jets kick off their offseason conditioning program.

"I'm just excited with everything that's been going on," Cromartie said on a conference call earlier this afternoon when I asked for his reaction to the trade. "I

#Jets reportedly gave Cromartie $500K up-front (he will make $1.7M in 2010) presumably to take care of outstanding paternity suits #nfl #nyj

Smart move. The fewer off field distractions he has, the better he'll be able to perform his job. I hope the Jets have someone in the front office helping him to get all this crap straightened out. At least have him hooked up with a good lawyer.

Jets give Cromartie $500,000 upfront

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 7, 2010 9:02 AM ET

With seven kids in five states and allegations of overdue child support payments, new Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie is in need of some cash.

The Jets are giving it to him.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network is reporting that the Jets are restructuring the remaining year on Cromartie's deal, converting about $500,000 of Cromartie's $1.7 million salary into a bonus that he'll receive now.

Without the Jets agreeing to re-work the deal, Cromartie would have had to wait until the regular season starts before he starts collecting his salary. And since his salary is about $100,000 a week, he would have had to wait until Week Five before he'd have $500,000. Apparently Cromartie (who also owes a former agent at least $32,000) needs $500,000 badly enough that he can't make it until October.

Cromartie is in the final year of his contract, and the Jets are not expected to give him a long-term extension.

not sure if this was already posted.

The thought of taking some pressure off Revis is a good one. I still can't believe what they asked of him last season. Just amazing. Single best season by a Jet player that I have ever seen.

i'd say that is a fair statement

but Vinny in '98 was amazing

Sure hope this guy is worth it.

We all saw what he wont do for your team in the playoffs, but the kid can make plays on the ball and thats really what this team needed.

What I like most is the flexability it gives us now in the draft.

Tanny is always wheeling and dealing.
