stoicsentry
With all this talk about so-called "pass-rushing" 3-4 DEs, let me ask this question: Sean Ellis had 6.5 sacks last year. How many 3-4 DEs had more? Probably just a handful. My point is not to say that we can't upgrade the DE position, but I'm just wondering about the mechanics of the whole thing. I mean, given that 3-4 DEs have such a limited celing when it comes to sacks, why would you be LOOKING for that as a major component of one? Getting a solid DE to go opposite of the Big Kat can help us in pass rush a lot, but not by getting there but by clogging up the blockers and stuffing the run. So, if we really want a guy to *produce* sacks, shouldn't we be targeting an OLB? Bryan Thomas is OK, but you gotta be crazy if you think he can't easily be upgraded. He'd be sick as the #3 OLB. Go for an OLB that actually gets to the QB, OR go for a DE that can take a double team. Imagine a D-line with Ellis, Jenkins getting double teamed and another guy who draws double teams. Crazy!!! HessStation
Not sure Ellis is demanding double teams anymore. I agree that the Jets need to be looking at that position this draft...although I haven't been a fan of drafting one high. Here's a list of some possible 3-4 DEs for this upcoming draft (a majority of prospects on this list were college DTs and some don't fit the 34DE profile perfectly but at least you can get an idea): Jared Odrick Penn State 6'5 300/ 1st round Brian Price UCLA 6'1 300/1st round Arthur Jones Syracuse 6'3 300/2nd-3rd round Tyson Alualu Cal 6'3 295/ 2nd-3rd round Corey Wootton Northwestern 6'6 270/ 2nd-3rd round Lamarr Houston Texas 6'3 305/ 3rd-6th round Alex Carrington Ark State 6'5 285/ 4th-6th round CJ Wilson ECU 6'3 290/4th-6th round Boo Robinson Wake Forest 6'2 295/ 4th-6th round Vince Oghobaase Duke 6'5 300/ 4th-6th round Mike Neal Purdue 6'3 295/ 4th-6th round Austin Lane Murray State 6'5 275/4th-7th round Clifton Geathers S. Carolina 6'7 299 / 4th-7th round Erick Lorig Stanford 6'3 280/6th-7th round

HessStation
Odrick for me in the first, unless someone better drops to them. For what it's worth, the only players I've read or heard associated with some type of Jet interest to date is Odrick and Lane.
bitonti
I agree with OP ellis was great in divisional games but his contract is up after this year. They list the Jets as a 4-3 team, with Bryan Thomas as their #2 4-3 OLB. i actually asked the dude about that on twitter and he said it was because of the way they use these guys with hands on the ground etc. i asked him the same question tho... as for the Jets: Austen Lane, Alex Carrington, CJ Wilson, Clifton Geathers, Geno Atkins in the 2nd or 4th make sense. I dont think they go 3-4 De in the first and i dont think Odrick is even there at 29. I personally think that Pito is the future but what do I know

JonEJet
Dude, Bryan Thomas was arguably our best defensive player last year Why people still hate on him is beyond me

But he's not the edge rushing sack master (I think) the Jets need. They need that rotational player who can come in on passing downs imo (J Abe rookie year). Pace and Thomas to start but that guy...Gholston was suppose to be. Unless the FO/coaching staff thinks Westerman can become that player. I hope but am on the fence per se. Hey, I even have a tenative...glimmer of hope...very small glimmer...of hope for Gholston.

What does Pito have going for him other than his ridiculous size? I'm not bashing him just don't remember him playing too often last year.
SenorGato
Corey Wootton, Lamarr Houston, and Carlos Dunlap as the Ellis/Pryce type of 3-4 DE. Linval Joseph and Oghobaase for the other type/side.
