rick34125
In Goodell we trust? Jets came up tails March, 22, 2010 2:28 PM ET By Tim Graham ORLANDO, Fla. -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell commented for the first time on the coin-flip controversy that gave the New York Giants the honor of opening the new Meadowlands Stadium instead of the New York Jets. Team representatives weren't invited to witness the coin flip, but Goodell insisted it happened -- and it came up heads. "There was a coin flip," Goodell said at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes during his annual news conference at the NFL owners meetings. "I did it myself, so I know. "We didn't call heads or tails. We used the head of the coin for the Giants because it says 'In God We Trust.' The 'G,' that's how I picked it. It's that simple." As a consolation, the NFL has scheduled the Jets for the stadium's first preseason game in August and the season-opening Monday night game Sept. 13. Jets owner Woody Johnson distributed a statement to express his dissatisfaction with Goodell's decision to stage a secret coin flip. Gary Myers of the New York Daily News reported Goodell was upset over Johnson's public insolence and that it could impact the Jets-Giants joint bid to host the 2014 Super Bowl. "I don't know who's characterizing my reaction, but I didn't have a reaction to it," Goodell said. "I'm used to criticism. If you're not used to criticism, you better not be in this job. "As it relates to how we solved it, we think we created a win-win for everybody. We offered both teams the same opportunity, and it appeared the two clubs wouldn't be able to resolve it on their own and, frankly, weren't even agreeable to the process of solving it. It was my decision to make. It was my authority, and I did so."

124
To me it sounded like he said they used a Giants coin and thats that, but I was also wondering why a Turkey was banging his/her head on the glass door, probably because it wanted my cat. billo83
Baddell is a POS. An absolute joke of a Commissioner. Says alot about the owners to keep this buffoon in power. Is anyone at all surprised this was done in secrecy? Probably had his boyfriend Belicheat filp the coin.

slats
Do people still care about this? The jints may get to say that they open the place, but the Jets have the primetime debut, and the showcase game on Thanksgiving. Probably a 95% chance they're on Hard Knocks, too. They're getting plenty of respect and exposure. Non-issue.

They're getting plenty of respect and exposure. Non-issue. Not to mention the Jets will host the first game ever in the new stadium, even though it's a preseason game. I think I actually like it better this way to be honest. Especially if the opener is against the Fish or Pats*
Sperm Edwards
What Goodell has not come forward with is any legitimate reason the coin flip was not done in the presence of both Jets and Giants team reps. The NFL office isn't exactly thousands of miles away.
jetophile
The coin is believed to have NOT been a weather balloon, but rather an Unidentified Flying Object over Roswell, New Mexico. Government sources have consistently denied this, but Area 51 has been roped off pending further investigation. Residents of the small town have sued under the Freedom of Information Act, but top secret information has mysteriously been blacked out and it appears entire pages are missing from military documents. Detractors from this theory take it one step further and adamantly believe the coin flip itself never happened at all because the coin disappeared over the Bermuda Triangle. Amelia Earhart enthusiasts have expanded their search to include the coin, which they believe Amelia is now using to reflect the sun in order to be seen by rescue crews from the air. Stay tuned. EDIT: Breaking News: Bill Belichick has declined to use his expertise to aide the Commissioner in settling the matter.
