BroadwayJ667
New York Jets restricted free agent running back Leon Washington isn't attending the team's voluntary offseason workout program. He hasn't signed his one-year, $1.759 million tender. "Leon Washington will not sign his tender at this time," Washington's agent, Alvin Keels, wrote on his Twitter account. "He will continue to rehab while weighing his options as a restricted free agent." Assigned the second round tender, Washington is continuing to recover from a broken leg suffered last season. Washington is expected to be ready for next season. The Jets have Shonn Greene as their starter and acquired veteran LaDainian Tomlinson as a free agent. Meanwhile, wide receiver Braylon Edwards, who received the high tender, has signed his $6.1 million deal and is attending workouts, the New York Daily News reports. At this point Leon's the moron for sticking with this guy. I wanted LW here but if he's gonna play games i say move on.Why should we invest in him when he needs to prove his worth after this injury. He should sign the one year tender and play himself into a big payday.

Mistalava
He had a chance to sign a very nice long-term deal before the injury and wound up %$^#ing himself by being unrealistic in estimating his value. Well, dems chickens are home to roost. I will gladly take a second round pick. He's very replaceable via the draft. He won't come to voluntary workouts? Then %$#* him! Now LW may never get anywhere near that. This was being too greedy.

I'm not saying he isn't replaceable via draft, but outside of Spiller and Best (neither of whom should be around for say, the pick we get for Washington although Best has a chance to slip that far) who exactly do you think would be a good option to replace him? They already replaced Leon with LT. Next they need to decide if Chauncey Washington is a worthwhile #3 RB, or if they need a little more help thru the draft. I continue to think they should stand pat at the position, and draft a RB next year. They'll have a much better idea of what they need after a year of Greene and Tomlinson. billo83
You know that Keels works for Leon and not the other way around, right? You know that agents are PAID to advise their clients, and that the clients usually listen to them, right? I'm sure that if Keels told Leon the Jets deal was fair, he would have signed it. In fact, there's no doubt in my mind about it.

billo83
If that's the case, then Leon paid for the privilege of being an even bigger moron than I thought. Look at this way - these are young men, most of whom have very little experience in business and are staring at millions of dollars in front of them. Now you have greedy Keels most likely telling Leon that the Jets offer is not fair and he's worth millions more. Wait until next season and they will be forced to give you a lucrative deal. Well he's paying an agent to advise him, so he takes his advise. Is that moronic, or trusting the advice of his agent? At worst, I'd say LW is impressionable and Keels had taken advantage of that for his own gain. Now because of his own greed and stupidity he has cost them both a lot of money. villain_the_foe
Alvin Keels = Genius. Leon Washington = Idiotic. +1 I've said that since last year. At the end of the day it's leons career. Of course the agent is going to go for the bigger bucks but the agent works for Leon. So at the end of the day its Leons decision to make. Leon had millions sitting in front of him, with a pen as well and he decided to take a chance. It didnt fall in his favor. Stop blaming the agent for Leon not signing and securing his future as a Jet.

billo83
Both. Well then why bother hiring an agent? He can do all of the negoitiating himself, and then hire a lawyer to draw up the contract. That would save all these players a lot of money.

At its highest level, soccer is incredible. The World Cup is going to be great this year, and the US has a real shot at going as far as they did in '02, if not further.
