Ghost
http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2010/3/26/1391211/pft-lions-agree-to-terms-with Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, by way of NBC's Rick Cordella, is reporting that the Lions have agreed to terms with free agent cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones. The move is expected to be announced next Tuesday in what would certainly be a highly anticipated press conference. Just earlier this week Martin Mayhew confirmed that the Lions are interested in Jones, and then Jim Schwartz took it a step further by saying that the Lions are "definitely interested" in him. According to Mayhew, the next step in the ongoing evaluation process was a meeting between he and Jones. Whether or not that has happened yet is unknown, but for the terms of a deal to be worked out, you would certainly think a meeting of some sort has taken place. Based on previous discussion we have had on Pride of Detroit (including a poll), it seems like while some are rightly still concerned about the character issues that have plagued Jones in the past, the vast majority of you would be happy to give Jones another chance and let him join the team. I am definitely on the bandwagon supporting the signing of Jones, because I believe his talent is worth taking the risk on. Obviously there is the possibility of Jones getting into trouble of some sort, but if that does happen then the Lions can simply release him. On the other hand, if nothing happens, the Lions may have found a starting-caliber cornerback and/or returner. To me, character flaws or not, this is a move worth making. What do you guys think? UPDATE (8:07 AM): Tom Kowalski is reporting that sources tell him PFT's story is "way off base" and that no agreement has been reached. It does seem odd that this story would go from Martin Mayhew saying that nothing is imminent just days ago to quickly turning around and agreeing to terms with Jones, so I suppose we will have to wait and see what actually happens. slowmoe57
I was on a airplane ride and sat next to a Lions fan (yes they do exist) and he says he is hopefull for his team but says the city of Detroit absolultly hates Millen for what he did -- I blame Millen somewhat but you cant hide the fact that ownership kept him way too long. He also mentioned something about long suffering but I had no idea what he meant by that. Good Luck to Pac Man - he is going to need it.
JerryK
Nobody in MI will pay attention until week 8. The 40,000 that show up for games are the only fans in the state. I had season tix for 3yrs (business reasons) and dumped them 2yrs ago. Last year their sales ofc was emailing me lowers on the 30 for 1400 ea. (no psl). I said nope. Its a funny thing but when I lived in Tampa and the Bucs were losers, thats what their fans were all saying. Now that they have won a SB and were Ok for a few years after, they have an 85000 member waiting list. I expect that when the LIONS turn it around, you will gladly buy seasons tickets again. Ghost
I honestly like this signing. I think it's a win-win situation for the Lions.
