Lady Jet
your kids will look at you like you're a complete dumb@ss. I think I have reached that point. Or perhaps I really am a dumb@ss. Any advice for this transition?

slowmoe57
Just shrug it off -- my son looks at me that way from time to time - He is 16 and feels he knows more than his mom or I - But I am much better than him at bustin balls so that will always give me the edge. but overall he is respectfull to everyone and is a good kid so I let minor baloney pass. Any advice for this transition? my IV drip of xanax that i have been carting around for the past two years has helped me mellow out. i am hoping to get an upgrade to a pump for mothers day.. that IV pole can be unwieldy when i need to go out shopping. it doesnt fit easily into my car. NIGHT STALKER
Meh, my children give me the same looks I did my parents...it's all good in the end if you raise them right...they'll get it, just like we did.

Any advice for this transition? No seriously I was just thinking about this yesterday. I'm not there yet with them but it's coming. My 8 year old already wants her distance when her friends are over. LOL, whatev. I tried to tell my wife to give it a rest that she's not cool anymore no matter how hard she tries. Once kids went with the tight ankled (skinny) pants I knew it was over for me. I'm old and out of it. I've excepted this.
Bob
You're no dumbass, LJ. The kids are going to realize that, eventually.
The Crusher
With my oldest daughter who is 21 I never got that feeling from her. She always seemed interested in what I said and at least made believe she was listening. 7 years later I have baby Crusher at 14 and he gives me a look like he's passing a kidney stone when I talk to him. I could see the absolute pain in his eyes whenever I start in slightly soap boxing. The funny thing is his crew of food pirates who plunder my home weekly always want to talk to me. The times I do lay knowledge on the childrens Baby Crusher always tries to take and argue the oppsosite point. I let him flex in front of his boys and then I use my superior intelect to dismantle his argument. Usually a "Homo says what?" does the trick. JiFtheOracle
If I ever gave my parents a look like that, I'd get smacked instantly. So instead, I just pretended to take to heart everything my parents told me, only to do whatever the F I wanted once I got out of their sight while making fun of the stupid things they were telling me. SoFlaJets
let me guess LJ, they are between the ages of 13-17...my daughters would look at me like they just bit into a lemon at that age-strange though that my son has never done that-he'll be 17 on Saturday
Verde
I think my favorite LadyJet story was when her daughter decided to give herself a haircut before school pictures. The description literally had me laughing out loud! I was an instant fan of yours after that post, LJ! lol

Any advice for this transition? every 3 monthS evaluate whats most important in your kids life. then thats the punishment when they are a smart-ass. If its music, no music..if its the car, no car (so what if u have to drive them to school/job etc...THE HARD THING TO DO AND THE RIGHT THING TO DO IS USUALLY THE SAME THING )..if it sports, they dont play, if its cell hone/texting, no cell.. Sending to room or just grounding is useless if they are still allowed to be entertained or not miserable from missing something they really love. One year our youngest son, who LOVED his dog, was punished by not being allowed to pet, play or touch his mutt for 2 weeks. To this day, he is 20, he says that was his worst punishment ever. JerryK
I'm looking forward to this. I want my kids to go to college, at least to the level I did. After that (age 30+) I'll seriously consider their input. My parents/inlaws would have benefitted from my suggestions since I was that age. (except for my 1998 "dump the annuities and buy stock" advice )
