The Storm

So I think I had mentioned that the storm ripped part of our roof off 2 weeks ago. Lots of water damage in the house. We had to wait for the insurance adjuster, blah blah blah. Anyhow the new roof is going up tomorrow. But we have been getting a lot of rain in between and a lot more water damage each time.

But that isn't the point. Yesterday our basement completely flooded. Carpeting is completely ruined. A few inches of water in what has been an otherwise dry basement for the past ten years.

That is okay, it is only money -- we will get it all fixed, worked out etc. So what am I mad about?

That I won't be able to watch the first Yankee game on the basement. That part bums me out.

My sympathies. Water damage is miserable. You DO have other TVs, though, right?

SoFlaJets has a great point also, it's really overlooked but it's serious. It will make you and the family sick, good luck and sorry to hear about the TV

It's something you don't really think about when you live in Jersey but down here Rill, it actually IS deadly-I got badly sick in my chest just from washing the green off my mom's patio with a hose some years back

Damn, sorry to hear about that.

A friend of mine bought a new house 4 years ago and had a pipe burst in the upstairs wall. she said there was condensation on all of the windows that you could see from the outside (she was in fla at the time of the pipe break). insurance covered everything and she had a special mold team come in and remove all the evidence. you would never have known there was a disaster.

LOL. Yes we have other TVs but the 50" in the basement is my baby.

My original plasma had to be put down a short while ago, so this is a tough time.

Get laminate flooring. F carpeting.

Laminate flooring in a basement? Does that hold up better if there is more water?

I am looking into alternatives...the whole house is hard wood. That is pretty much the only room that has carpeting right now. Or had carpeting anyway.

The roof guys are here. Except we have them all on hold because the boss didn't tell them we had a skylight. Not sure why they can't rip off the old roof and worry about the skylight later but I won't second guess them. Just happy they are here. No more leaks.

:-P

sorry Phil, been there done that .

sadly and a fyi, when water eventually finds it way in , it sometimes will re-occur in future with less rain that it finally took this time.

so beware and maybe install a sump pump if u plan on being there awhile,,

But, the Raleigh Jet Fan Club is still hopeful we will get you eventually :D

Thanks. LOL about Raleigh my youngest is just 7 so I wouldn't wait up just yet.

Definitely going to look into what we need to do in the basement. It just seems wrong to put new flooring down and assume that this won't happen for another 10 years.

I have a friend that is a contractor and he is coming over today to quote us on a lot of the repair stuff after the roof is done.

My friend is an expert at putting flashing around chimneys and skylights..it is a lot of work to do it right, and the boss is probably anal about that. there should be absolutely no tar involved if its done correctly.

cool...

also have him quote u a sump pump cause that seems like a must have now to either protect a empty basement from mold or to protect and get water out asap in future if u have 'stuff' down there..

fyi...beans and I will get u ..we always do eventually ;)

I bought the flashing kit that home depot sells for that model skylight. I call it $60 and hope for the best!

After I retire and sell JetNation for a few million it is going to be Central Park West for me and my wife. I was born in NY, seems like a good place to retire. :-P

Just need to work on the millions part and then I am all set. :winking0001:

Laminate flooring cannot get wet it will blow up most of it is particle board. The best remedy is ceramic tile it holds up best in places that get water. Theres also a product that looks like hardwood flooring but is actually rubber strips, jst not sure if the glue will hold up under water.

Best remedy for a flooded basement remove everything and power wash using bleach and simple green.

I was just reading about that, people are saying ceramic tile.

Although I just filled out a form to get a quote on stained concrete. Some of the designs were out of this world. It will be out of my league price wise though. But concrete seems like the best way to deal with water.

Concrete and an area rug or astro-turf. Easily picked up before an ensuing storm. People with flood prone basements need to properly prepare and deal with them. Depending on how high the water reaches mount the TV on the wall------

The TV is pretty high. If it gets that bad we are all in for it.
