LoneStarLady
We were thinking of doing this to our concrete back porch. Looked into concrete paint, but never got around to it. If you do paint, let us know how it goes.

JoeC36
we painted ours. Honestly never heard of staining. Its not real hard to do, and it really does look so much better then just plain concrete. and ?? let me know

JoeC36
Some of the stains really make them look incredible. And apparently they hold up pretty well. i google imaged the stained and your right it looks amazing. I guess it really matters what you use your basement for. We have the work shop on one side the through the door we have my jets room, then the ping pong, pool and fooseball tables. So the paint really works cause it gets alot of use from not clean feet all year round. Now if my pop and i ever get around to putting the in the bar, id definitely stain now that i know thats an option.

joebabyny
Anyone ever do this? Thinking of doing it in the basement... Thoughts? My parents did this in their basement. I think some kind of acid stain or something. The basement originally had commercial carpet glued to the concrete, so when that was ripped up and left marks from glue swirls on the concrete the stain really made it all look pretty cool. They also have a poured concrete bar, a pretty decent sized one, L shaped, made with the wood forms and rebar in it and everything. That was stained too, but a different process i think, something that was pretty new a few years ago when they did it. I'll see if i can dig up what they used, and when i am home again in 2 weeks i'll snap some pics if you want. Everyone loves the floor and the bar when they see it the first time. That is exactly what I am referring to, thanks. The acid stain goes on the existing concrete and takes out all the imperfections. People are telling me this isn't hard to do yourself. I am getting quotes on it though just to see.

Well i don't think it took out the imperfections, but it kind of enhanced them and made the floor look really cool, this kind of pseudo industrial look. Also, a lot of those pics when you google stained concrete it looks like they score the floor to make it look like tiles, my parents didn't do that, and i think it looks better without that, but just my opinion. Like i said, in about 2 weeks i'll snap some pics and post them.
