New candidate for dumbest question asked to prospect

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 9, 2010 11:22 AM ET

First, we had the deserter question to Myron Rolle. Then, the G-string or jock strap quandary posed to Gerald McCoy.

The latest nominee in most ridiculous thing posed to an incoming rookie comes from James Madison outside linebacker Arthur Moats, who passes along this story to Patriots Daily.

"I was with the Redskins, and the guy asked me, if I'm coming into camp, I'm 30 minutes early, I'm sitting in the front row of the meeting room. Brian Orakpo walks in and says, "That's my chair." Am I going to get up and give him my spot, or am I going to sit there and fight him for a chair?" Moats said.

Moats' answer to the team gives a window into his soul. Or it's totally worthless.

"You know, I was just like, I'll slide over, because I mean, he's the million-dollar man; it's not that important. So he was like, 'Oh, so you're scared of him?' And I was like, no. And he was like, 'So why don't you go fight him?' There was kind of like no right answer to the question and everything, the way he was asking it."

Not fighting Brian Orakpo generally seems like a smart play.

its not a dumb question.

the Skins wanted to see if Moats viewed himself as an alpha dog. In this case, he didn't. Punching Orakpo would be over-reaction, (and it doesn't surprise me that Florio the lawyer agreed with Moats)

but he didn't have to slide over... and GIVE this man anything. Defense is less cerebral than offense, more about fire... these guys want to see what kind of internal monsters these guys got.

this is like the NFL version of the 'unlock the door' test in Bronx tale

clever too.. sucks for the skins that now the secret is out...

and if you dont believe me... think this is still stupid... watch the career of Arthur Moats... he needs an attitude adjustment.

You can be an alpha-type and still not give two craps about what chair you're sitting in. There's more important things in life to make a stand on. The questions is beyond stupid.

I understood from the beginning first reading the op what the skins were getting at. But it is a stupid question. Rookies get hazed and your teammates are brothers not cellmates to fight with for the lower bunk.

Now, his answer was stupid, there is a way to answer, not look like a wimp but also not look like a locker room troublemaker, but he didn't give that answer. Growing up with a father who interogates better than any cop I've ever been locked in a room with trained me to see these trick questions a mile away.

LOL this is just over the top... no reason that was a bad answer. He gave props and respect to a vet (well, compared to him Orakpo is a vet)

It would've been concerning if he DID make a big issue out of it.

If he would've been so willing to throw a fit about a stupid chair then I wouldn't want him on my team.

Can you imagine what would happen with a guy like that if he had just one night at a bar or club or whatever? He'd have an arrest record in no time. You don't need those guys on your team...

There is a time to be fired up and aggressive and it's when working out and playing the game, not in a press conference or other place.. good for him.
