Anyone think we should draft a FB this year?

I do, T-Rich is 38 and believe it or not, FB's are a big part of a offense, expecaly T-Rich. I think we try to draft a FB in the 4th round and try to get Rashawn Jackson from Virginia, let T-Rich teach Jackson for 2 years or so and when T-Rich is ready to retire, Jackson steps in, thoughts?

I thought Richardson was noticeably worse last year than the year before. If we draft a top notch fullback I would expect him to beat out Richardson for the starting position.

I know Richardson is very popular with Jet fans, but he really went down last year, it was noticeable even if no one wanted to talk about it.

I was very vocal about wanting a pass catching FB before the moves to bring in LT and Holmes. If the Jets plan to move beyond this season with Edwards, Holmes, and Cotchery, the FB isn't going to be seeing the field much, anyway.

The UDFA route would be the only way I'd be on board with this. We don't have many needs, but this draft is too loaded to be looking to draft one in any round. Same goes for punter.

Assuming we address DE/OLB and CB or FS early on in the draft, rounds 4-7 ought to address the following, in no particular order:

OL - potential eventual replacement for Faneca or Woody

WR - slot receiver until Holmes is available in week 5 AND/OR potential starter when Holmes or Edwards likely leaves following 2010 season

CB/FS - whichever position we didn't address in the first two rounds; Poole is injury prone and we need a nickle corner

RB - If we acquire an extra pick (we only have 5), we could use a 4th RB to round out this unit. Leon Washington might be on his way out before, during or after the draft, so this would be the replacement for him in that case

The players we select in the late rounds, ideally, should also be able to contribute adequately on special teams; we lost one of our best coverage guys, Wallace Wright, and need to give Westhoff some help in what was one of our weakest units last season.

Now, I know Tannenbaum tends to go after the best player available, and this will change if he makes some draft-day dealings, but just because we've been active in the offseason does not mean we can afford to use our draft picks to take players at luxury positions, FB included.

If he isn't going to start there is no reason to take a FB. None. They aren't going to carry two and you don't burn a draft pick on a guy that you risk on the practice squad. I'm with Slats that I'd like a FB that can catch, but they have had a few guys in the past few years and seem to like Davis.

I myself would not draft a FB. There should be plenty of decent one's to sign as FA's post draft.

yes, if he doesn't get terminated first.

now that they used a 5th rounder on a fullback that should answer the question

fwiw john conner is an absolute beast. he cracked peoples skulls at the senior bowl. the guy is a wrecking ball. I very much like that he's a member of the Jets.
