Im just having difficultly understanding our first round pick.

Kyle Wilson is a great great player. BUT, hes gonna be a friggen nickel corner. Why didnt we get kindle? He would have deff replaced BT and be our long term future pass rusher. Man I seem alone in this.

We need someone to replace your boy Revis when he demands astronomical money.

The way the NFL is headed, Wilson is not "just a nickle corner". He's more like a starter. Everyone runs lots of 3 or 4 WR sets, some teams almost exclusively, so you need 3 solid corners out there to go to war with.

We lost to the Colts primarily because we had Dwight Lowery and Drew Coleman out there to pick on. No one, not even Peyton Manning, will be able to do that again now that we've added Cromartie and Wilson.

Right.

Wilson was drafted because he was the BPA. This team had no real pressing need, so they drafted the best player on the board, which was easily Kyle Wilson.

Plus, the secondary will be sick now. No more worries about guys like Austin Collie burning us.

with Wilson, Cro and Revis, there will be many coverage sacks this year. Besides the guy is a great PR. He is a steal at 29.

This trade was made in response to the Indy game...So many teams are switching to spread throwing offenses that we need to have more than 2 good CBs. Our defense is going to be sex with Wilson covering the slot.

Kindle would not have replaced BT. Taylor would.

In Rex's defense, Wilson will see waaaaaauyyyy more playing time than Kindle ever would in 2010.

Seriously. The Jets play nickel a lot.

As to BAP, Wilson >>>> Kindle

Really good post. The Colts put a blue print out there on how to attack the Jets. Lowery was beaten in that game over and over again. Granted many teams can't do what the Colts can but even with that, the Jets are making it harder by adding another top CB.

Lowery was a bitch in Ben Roethlisberger's bathroom that game.

First of all, always trust the way the draft falls over the mocks you fall in love with from the prognosticators... there is a reason why some evaluators work for NFL teams, and others work for TV networks that cater to women and casual fans.

Second, here is what you have to look at... pass rush comes from more than just one player. Simply put, great coverage has just as much an effect on pass rush, if not more, than one pass rusher can provide. Now, when you have a defense that, under Mangini and under Rex, has lost big games to #3 and #4 WRs... and you can't get the pass rusher you covet, then you have to get someone that can keep you from getting killed by outlet passes when you blitz like crazy... Wilson and Cromartie do that.

Jason Taylor + Cromartie + Kyle Wilson >>> Kimble + Cromartie + Lowery

I am frankly sick and tired of seeing scrub WRs look like studs against Lowery and Drew Coleman.

One simple reason. The Jets feel they need to beat one team. Indianapolis. Indy has an offense that revolves around the passing game. You need corners. Yes you also need a pass rush, but they can get Kindle tomorrow or they could develop Westermann.

Adailius Thomas may be an option down the road.

Incidentally, we can't overlook the fact that unlike Hughes or Kindle, Wilson will be playing a position he knows (he plays well in press & zone).

Both Hughes & Kindle would have to learn a new position.

With 3 absolute legit CB's we can face 3 WR sets, have 1 Safety play back and scan where the help is needed, and send 7 to clobber the QB every time. We have an epic, legendary secondary now.

Yes infk'n deed we do - the pass rush we have under contract is more than adequate to record plenty of sacks and hurries.

The Jets must have liked this player since they probably could have traded down, which Minny did with the next pick. I trust the brain trust.

Agreed.

Especially when you consider what Minny got from Detroit in that trade.

NFL Network is lauding this pick right now... great value for the Jets!

Charlie Casseryly just reiterated my point here.

I love the Cromartie trade but what if he declines further? Then we're back where we started before Lito, so this had to be done. I love the pick and think he could challenge for that second coverage. Ryan's blitz schemes rely upon solid coverage, which allows more linebackers to blitz. If we didn't have Holmes I would say go with Bryant. Ryan was obviously not too high on Kindle and with Taylor he won't see the field at all next year. Odrick might have been the pick had the Dolphins not traded back into the pick before ours, but this makes a lot of sense. Wilson can break on the ball, read the run and wrap up the ball carrier, and best of all he gets physical at the line of scrimmage. Great pick!

Remember last year in the AFC championship game when we lost Strickland to injury and Peyton began to eat us up ? This move is basicly an attempt to shut Peyton Down and put a hurt on his Multiple receiver sets. The Jets blitz packages will always bring pressure, the key to beating Peyton is getting in his receivers faces and putting a huge hurt on them. Wilson is the Physical presence we need in our Nickel defense and he can return punts which is a big need as well.

I think giving up huge games to guys like Edelman and the ****-ton of other #3 and #4 WRs that killed us last year had something to do with it too...

Also, Wilson is replacing what Strickland was supposed to be for the Jets.

The Jets signed Strickland to a very important position in Rex's defense and the defense was hurt by Strickland never being healthy. Strickland getting hurt against Indy killed them.

Wilson will play a huge role on this team.

Look @ the projected playoff teams.

Saints - loaded passing attack

Colts - loaded passing attack

Cowboys - loaded passing attack

Minnesota - do I have to keep going?

There were only 2 weak passing teams in the playoffs last year.

The Jets and the Bengals.

The Jets took steps to be able to pass when behind in a game, which is also why we lost to the Colts... we couldn't keep pace with them when we needed to.

Our passing game got better, and so did our pass D... and its only round 1.

i'd be willing to bet we go for a DE over an OLB
