Lets Talk Jets Cornerbacks/DB's

Ok, so its Revis,Cromartie,Wilson, and then who? Lowery?. I was really for this pick seeing how good Wilson can be. He's all over the field and intense. Great way to play cornerback i belive. I think he'll gel nicely w Revis and Crom. Now my question is about the 4th CB...Do you guys think its Lowery? And if so, isnt he plenty good enought to cover the oppositions 4th wideout/tight end? i think so. If we only woulda drafted another safety like Reshad Jones i'd be thrilled. Our secondary still has a chance to make us rack up more sacks than last season with the acquisition of Kyle.

Lowery doesnt suck.

The Jets weren't content with pushing him down to #3. They added 2 corners in a month to push him down to #4. He sucks. If he didn't then the Jets go to the superbowl 3 months ago. In 4 or 5 WR sets there should be less field that he needs to cover and should be less of a liability. He might even pick off a couple of passes because he does have good hands.

Agree that Lowery,Coleman and sh!tazz Sheperd helped the colts beat us.

So far he has. I still think he has some potential as a ball hawk safety... just not as a cover corner.

He's not able to play man coverage every single play but that doesnt mean that he "sucks". Thats like saying Cromartie sucks because he couldnt play zone coverage well.

Lowery doesnt suck at corner and would be a pretty good safety too.

He doesnt suck Sperm. You're hurting my feelings and I dont like my feelings to be hurt. I'll say it again and you'll agree, Lowery DOESNT suck.

(You're right though lol).

He hasn't had success doing what we have asked him to do... so he is not a good fit to play man coverage to the extent that Rex plays man coverage against 3 WR sets.

I think he could be a bit better than pretty good as a safety. His skill set lends itself more to that role IMO.

I agree with that. To say he sucks makes it seem as if he cant do anything. He is a good corner but he is a situation man coverage corner and is much better in zone or in limited space (at the moment) as sperm said. But to say that he sucks is again stretching it...especially with past corners on this team that was much worse.

I don't want to hurt your feelings, but he's not good in the CB role the Jets needed. Maybe in nickel situations they pull Pool off the field because Lowery might be better in zone in coverage, as Bergen's alluding to. That wouldn't surprise me. But Rex wants his corners like glue on their man. Enough that they're covered without being double-teamed so he can send 7+ guys every down.

I don't know much about Poole, or how Cromartie will play, but anything short of the best pass defense and beating Indy in the playoffs and next year will be a failure. We are going to see a lot of incomplete passes, balls batted down, interceptions and fumbles everywhere, and enough back-breaking sacks to make Goodell enforce all sorts of rules. With the amount of injuries we're going to cause, forget about the Tom Brady rules because they are going to institute the Rex Ryan rules and start packing airbags into quaterback pads. Goodell will insist that two hands was good enough for when we were kids and that it should be good enough now. Brady will simply slap the ground two times and it will be declared a tap-out because ten sacks a game is just unheard of. I expect this team to rack up between four and six sacks per game minnimum. With the addition of Taylor, the every week participation of Pace and Jenkins, and a lockdown secondary it is going to be hard for opposing quaterbacks to do more than eat the ball.

I expect you to be disappointed.

But on paper, the Jets right now have an excellent secondary. I figure the #4 CB job (quite a luxury that we're even talking about it) will come down to Lowery vs. GOB's worst DB in Michigan history, Donovan Warren, and that the loser of that battle will be in the mix at FS.

whoever says Lowery sucks doesn't know what they're talking about. lowery has some limitations (lacks some speed), but he is technically very sound and overall very solid. with that said, nobody was able to stop peyton manning last year, not even the saints, although they won.

Top 10 Cornerbacks in Success Rate, 2009 (data as of 2/3/10)

24-D.Revis - Rank # 1

21-D.Lowery - Rank # 7

Top 10 Cornerbacks in Yards per Pass, 2009 (data as of 2/3/10)

24-D.Revis - Rank # 1

21-D.Lowery - Rank # 3

btw Rex didn't draft Wilson to replace lowery, he drafted him to replace cromartie if cromartie doesn't work out for whatever reason. but like rex said, when you draft a 1st round player he starts, so that's why he's slotted for the nickel over lowery.
