How many teams

top 3 cornerbacks were all first round draft picks? And if you do name more than one, how many are all 26 years old and younger with 2 of them already having gone to the ProBowl?

As a Jets fan and a student of the cornerback position, I could not be happier.

none of that stuff matter D...all you have to know is Belichick and Parcells are magicians who are also geniuses and that Rex is still fat and Cromartie has too many kids and is a thug along with every other Jet and every signing we made was a mistake compounded by the disastrous decisions to let players go that we shouldn't have let go-WE. ARE. SCREWED.

it's historic for sure. but given the cap it's probably going to be short lived. ironically if cromartie has a good season we'll probably have to trade him. on second thought, Rex is so in love with CBs, and particularly cromartie, he would probably trade sanchez before him. Mark you better not have a sophomore slump. :)

you this is what I don't get, people thinking that guys like Holmes, Cromartie and Edwards are all one year stop-gap rolling the dice for a one year chance at a championship measures. Granted, maybe Tomlinson falls into that category simply because of his age but then again maybe not. He's still only a 30 year old RB who has never had a serious injury. I can see all 4 being Jets again next season.

Because they are all on one year deals. Ironically, Tomlinson and Taylor signed for two. For cap purposes, assuming there is a cap, it will probably be difficult to keep them all beyond this season. The important thing is that they get to choose who they make offers to and they aren't stuck with underperforming losers for long term big dollar contracts. If Cromartie is still knocking chicks up and owing child support, Holmes is smoking weed and/or Edwards is punching midgets we can let them walk wtih no loss.

Edwards punched Tom Cruise??? :box:

Why aren't I told about these things?

no other position in this era garners as much interest AND $$$ than a shutdown CB-unless Cromartie pulls a Strickland/Lito type year he should be here for a long time

It is time for him to settle down and raise a family.

One family!!! :D

i always had a feeling that when revis's contract is up,he is going to want the highest paid defensive player status.he played that game when he was drafted.i just dont see him accepting a contract that the jets could afford.

if revis keeps playing like he has, cromartie plays at a high level, and wilson progresses nicely,i can see cromartie getting a contract and revis could be traded.not saying it will happen, but it is in the realm of possibilities.

i know.i know.not saying it should happen, just in the realm.the jets have some major contracts to be resigned.revis-top paid defensive player.mangold-top paid center.d'brick-top 5 left tackle.harris-top 5 linebacker.not cheap to say the least.throw in all the draft picks the jets threw around for sheppard(4th rounder lost already)cromartie, holmes, and edwards.all great moves.but if they cant be resigned and we cant get compensation back, seems like a high priced 1 year rental.

anyways,if and only if,all 3 db's play at a high level this year and you can only keep 2,who do you keep?revis(15m per)and wilson(rookie wage)and dump cromartie for basically nothing or keep cromartie(7m per)and wilson and get possibly 2 1st rounders for revis and not have to pay his huge salary.

again, just playing devils advocate here.it would sicken me to lose revis.i trust tanny is the man to work his magic on these future contracts, but the man is only human

Hopefully you keep all three unless Cromartie turns out like Strickland and Lito-good CB's are the most valuable commodity on defense in this era of passing that is going on now in the NFL

There's quite a bit of space under the cap if you manage it. You can't keep everyone of course, but you can definitely keep a good nucleus. You won't be able to break the bank on anyone. The Pats for years had a very talented team, they would just pretend they weren't that talented.

Ylekram brings a good point up. Revis is not going to be an easy sign. I think he is going to want to be the highest defensive player in the NFL. He may deserve it.

Couple that with the fact that the money going to the players will most likely be reduced by 18%

Not the time to think about it right now. Revis has 2 more years on his contract. There probably won

Faneca's release, Gholston's restructuring, Leon's trade, Taylor and BT's impending release next year, TRich will be gone next year, and Woody may be replaced by then as well. We are going to make this work. Unlike most teams we really don't have any high salary low production players anymore. If Braylon and Holmes work out I think we could keep both of them. In 2011 we will have Ellis, Mangold, Pool, Edwards, Harris, Cromartie, and Holmes to deal with. In 2012 we've got DBrick and Leonhard. It's not that bad, as of now we have something like 110 plus million on the roster, and many of the players I first mentioned at the top will not be returning. DBrick's restructuring will be big because he is going to hit the cap in 2011 for 12.5. If he alone is extended and restructured it could make room for Cromartie.

There is another fourty that could be applied to keeping Harris, Mangold, Holmes, Edwards, Revis, Ellis and Pool. That fourty comes from the absence of salary for players whose contracts will be up. The 2011 cap should be something like 130 give or take. Believe it or not this team is built for the long haul. I see future room for draft prospects to replace vets on the DLine and at the safety position should Pool or Leonhard demand too much. We can infuse new young talent on the offensive line, and there isn't too much invested at the running back position.

The reason so many players haven't been resigned is because they haven't had to be and no one is sure what the new agreement will entail. Many expected quaterbacks like Brady and Manning to be resigned but that has been put on hold because teams are afraid of a possibly lower cap that could impinge future signings.
