what am I missing here?

slowmoe57 and Montreal Jet made the same bets on each team. The former put 70,000 on each team and the latter put 10,000 on each team. When they each win, they only would break even. Am I right or wrong? Either I'm the dumbass or they are the dumbasses.

I don't think you're missing anything.

You might see somebody bet both sides when they realize they made a mistake on the initial bet to even it out.

Then again, I'm pretty sure I could take both sides and manage to lose.

deleted --I will keep this cat in the bag -- but to be honest it really is not that hard to figure out what I am doing.

Im still a dumbass but in this case the math makes sense. it works out as follows,

I bet 1000 on each team. Total cost 2000

Team A wins +2000 and my intital 1000=3000

Team B wins +2000 and my initial 1000=3000

Guaranteed win.

Its my other bets that suck

look at the title of the thread and the odds

I saw that and knew what the odds were.

I guess I'm coming from the integrity angle as opposed to the ruthless/get-every-last-penny-I-can-get angle.

edit-

I wrote all this a few moments before putting the same amount on the Cavs as I had previously wagered on the Celtics. Screw integrity. I give up.

VBookie is weird to me as far as how you get your money back. Maybe that's how gambling works in Las Vegas and stuff like that.

I'm really only a lowly office football pool guy.

Pick games for $10.

30 people play.

$300 pot.

Win.

Get the $300 pot.

Because you bet $10, you actually only win $290.

VBookie-style, you'd get $310. You'd win the $300 but you'd also magically get back the $10 you had paid to get into the pool.

a pool is different than a bet.

your way, if you give the book $100 for a 1/1 bet, you'd only get 100 back if you win.

The correct way is you get your stake + winnings, so 200.

these threads are different because nick is giving good odds for both sides, so if you risk the same amount on each side you win either way

that's because he's doing 2/1 instead of 1/1

Thank you. I am a novice with this betting stuff and am only doing it here 'cause it is free.

now I feel like a schmuck for doing that

of course, if I had been more confident, then I would have bet 7,000 on boston
