Boxing Tips Or Techniques?

As many of you know, I am 6 months removed from a torn ACL. After my football career, however far it goes, I had always planned on doing UFC, however, I don't want to risk a re-torn ACL, so I have decided to go with boxing after football. Does anyone here have any tips or techniques that will help a beginner in boxing? I've never boxed before, but I have no doubt I can do it. :box:

I don't have any tips other than to say that in boxing, the other guy usually tries very hard to punch you. Most guys will try to punch you often.

Make sure you are aware of this and plan accordingly.

Boxing doesn't prevent knee injuries, gyms are findable, asking for technique advice online is stupid, always bring an extra t-shirt to the gym, train with your mouthpiece in, stop benching, start running, buy your own rope and have it knotted before you're in the gym, keep your nails trimmed, put your socks on properly, and if you take care of your wraps, they'll take care of you.

Oh, and when you get knocked on your ass for the first few months, it's because your head's not moving, you're flat footed, you're holding your chin and elbows too high, and you're out of shape. Good luck.

Solid advice Max. I'd like to add that "plan accordingly" would include a solid dental plan as well as major medical coverage and a huge life insurance policy. Best of luck.

Nice. When comes the part where you tell Mick to cut you?

There's a little guy over at JI that could probably help you, he's from the streets and he know how to handle himself.

In fact, in his neighborhood, he probably would have kicked your ass just for asking the question.

Considering your profound love for the Rocky series I expected more.

I recommend getting an education. Maybe some creative writing classes, so when you're making up stories on the internet, they're at least a little more compelling.

Why would I be making up a story that I want to get into boxing?

I don't think mma training would be that much more dangerous for your acl than boxing. MMA is a combination of many arts, including boxing. If you start boxing first, you already have your foot in the door for mma. If you want to fight professional "DO UFC", it is going to take many years of training. You can't learn combat sports on the internet and as much advice as you get here you're 100% going to forget all of it as soon as you get hit with your first punch during your first sparring session. Get yourself into a boxing gym as soon as possible. Where do you live? I can maybe recommend a few mma oriented places.

Good luck!!

If you really want to get into the science of boxing, and not just be a slugger, one simple and beneficial thing to do is watch clips of sugar ray robinson. Even though he fought in his prime in the forties and fifties, there is quite a bit of decent film on him that you can find on the Internet.

The man was perfection. Watch his footwork and his amazing combos. Jabs, crosses, right hand straight leads, hooks and uppercuts with both hands. He had it all. Especially watch the way he set guys up for the finishing left hand hook knockout. They never see it coming.

Perfection ...

You are right. That was the perfect spot for the, "Its not how hard you hit, its how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward" speech.

My bad.

Actually, there's a great tip. Probably the #1 thing you should know. Quoting Rocky everywhere outside of a boxing gym is awesome. In a boxing gym? Not awesome.

Nonsense. Rocky quotes are always appropriate.

Even in the movie theater. I will take the bon bons and the jujubees....

Yeah, Rocky quotes and Chuck Norris jokes never get old.

Seriously though, for those that asked, I play in Florida, and I was thinking about going with my brother to do some stand-up UFC training this week. only problem is, football is like a 24/7 thing.

Three main things that were taught to me. Very basic, yet everyone seem so forget.

1-Don't be a head hunter, always remember to go to the body...it will pay off as the rounds so on, I promise.

2-NEVER forget to use your jab, it sets up EVERYTHING else that your trying to accomplish.

3-If you don't have heart when things aren't going your way, this sport isn't for you.

Obviously keep up your cardio and put your time in at the gym. Good luck.
