Inside The Numbers: Jets Contracts

Good stuff -- thanks! This shows our FO is keeping the bigger picture in mind. Nice to know they actually have a plan for keeping most of our talent intact for the future.

You'd like to think they have a plan but since Leon Hess hired Kotite I really started to question everything they've done since .

The Gholston stuff is interesting. It's a good deal for Vernon, who should get a chance to play - and for the Jets, who will be able to cut him with little pain if he continues to suck.

I'm really not seeing the plan for keeping everyone, though. Revis is locked up for a couple years, but Mangold, Harris, and D'Brick are all let's wait and see, I guess. No mention of our two #1 WR's who are scheduled to be free agents after this season, too.

A lot is contingent on development of the new CBA and how it is structured.

Teams are taking a wait and see attitude, because they have to. Paying money before knowing the rules of the game would be idiocy.

It muddies the water from the Jet perspective, because they have so many good players on the cusp, but they have to understand the new rules. There very well could be dramatic changes.

That works both ways. The new rules could really benefit the players, and management could be proven to be wiser if they locked up talent now.

Just commenting in response to people saying, "nice to see they have a plan." I don't see much evidence of an actual plan here. I understand the situation, and I'm not being critical of the organization. Just that I thought the article was going to shed some new light for me, but it didn't.

I see your point. You can't really blame them for waiting. Besides, I have complete faith in Tannenbaum. We don't call him the accountant simply to undermine his draft choices. He's done a real nice job with contracts and I think what he did with Gholston, Rhodes and Faneca shows he was looking to free some money up going forward. Not to mention getting something for Leon who wasn't going to be ready and would likely have been the odd man out.

Is there any team in the NFL that is making big moves and contract extensions at this point?

Again, I'm not questioning the organization. It's just that the article is titled "Inside The Numbers." I was expecting some sort of big picture article. Especially seeing this as the first comment in the thread:

But after reading it, I have no more of a feel for their plans with any of their high priced talent coming towards the end of their deals - outside of Gholston. The big picture seems to be sitting around and waiting for the new CBA.

That's all I'm saying.

I just don't see the Player's Association winning this war, so its smarter to wait. While other teams are splurging on the Patrick Willis's and Brandon Marshall's of the world, we're sitting and waiting, and likely telling our guys behind the scenes "don't worry, we're going to take care of you" without being stupid with our dollars.

The players seem to love being here and love playing for Rex, so I doubt we hear much in the way of lockerroom politics over the offseason. Especially not with the "Hard Knocks" cameras on the scene.
