PS17
AJax made an unbelievable play in the ninth to keep the perfecto going. Then with two outs, grounder to Miggy at first, short toss to Galarraga who covered the bag. Clearly out. Ump calls him safe. **** you Tim Joyce. Replay needs to happen in MLB. The Gun Of Bavaria
I LITERALLY WANT TO VOMIT RIGHT NOW. I MEAN I AM SICK TO MY STOMACH. GALARRAGA WAS ABSOLUTELY ROBBED. ROBBED OF HIS POSITION IN HISTORY. THE PLAY WASN'T EVEN CLOSE. THIS WAS A DISGUSTING DISPLAY OF GROSS INCOMPETENCE. TIM JOYCE SHOULD BE FIRED, PERIOD. vanDoug
Horrible call doesn't work here. Life changing call. WTF was that ump looking at? It's been said a blind man can ump first base. The sound of the ball hitting the glove and the foot hitting the bag are different. So this guy's deaf and blind? I feel so sorry for the pitcher. neckdemon
i just saw the replay.....mlb should overturn the ruling and give the kid his perfect game. thats a god damned shame. that umpire should f*king quit......he just stole something huge from that kid...... JonEJet
Under the circumstances, possibly the worst call in the history of the game That being said, The Ump was upset, and showed real class by apoligizing to Galarraga.....moreso Leyland showed class defending the game and the ump Detroits organization should be proud the way the team handled the entire affair

JonEJet
Joyce feels absolutely awful: “I don’t blame them a bit or anything that was said,” Joyce said. “I would’ve said it myself if I had been Galarraga. I would’ve been the first person in my face, and he never said a word to me.”

Scott Dierking
Bad calls happen all the time in baseball, and it is part of the game. Unfortunately, this bad call cost a kid a personal achievement, and that is very unfortunate. Baseball should not institute replay further than it has (do we want 5 hour games?), nor should it change any ruling (what would be the precedent?). No hitters are awarded by questionable calls (borderline calls going to the pitcher, or questionable scoring judgment), often. Just the same as you do not take away those no-hitters, you do not award based on a missed call. Unfortunate, yes.

When you have umps blowing multiple blatant calls in Playoff games [take last year's Yanks vs. Twins ALDS and ALCS] it is time for instant replay. It has enhanced football and tennis greatly. Baseball needs to stop being stubborn. Replay MIGHT add an extra 5 or 10 minutes to games -- it won't even be that long for the most of the time. CrazyCarl40
Terrible call? Of course. More instant replay? God, no. There is no reason to take a 3 hour extravanganza and lengthen it even more.

Maxman
Galarraga is a class act. How he handled a TERRIBLE situation was impressive. He got screwed royally. greenerdaze
Selig should overturn the call, especially since the next batter grounded out and Galarraga's perfection prevailed. Simple as that.

Agreed, in that I would've been banned from baseball in that situation, as I would've ripped Joyce's arms from his torso and beaten him to death with them. THE ILK
Really, I think baseball should step in here and give him credit for the perfect game. That would make 3 already this season, and that would be a first. Besides this year, there has only been 2 in 1 season 1 other time, and that was the first 2 ever thrown in 1880, and they came only 5 days apart from each other. Cy young got the next one 24 years later. Only 20 days past between Braden's and Halladay's this year and only 4 days would be between Galarraga's and Halladay's. So that would be 3 historical records right there: 3 in one season, the fastest 2 and the fastest 3. This ump blew a whole lot of history if you ask me. Lil Bit Special
So there I am... sitting in a hospital room waiting. With wires glued to my head and some stupid box connecting all the wires. Trying to wind myself down and calm down since Im there for a sleep test and I already have enough trouble falling asleep... watching the 8th and 9th inning unfold on ESPN... The long drive to center that somehow Austin Jackson tracked down. And then... Jim Joyce. Nothing better than sharing that historic moment with a nurse who doesnt know or care about baseball. No one to debate and discuss and share anger with. I felt so lost and alone and mad at that f#cking umpire from screwing up a perfect game and screwing up my chance at getting a good night sleep. What an amazing moment to watch. If I had to bet, I would figure this is how the Mets will lose out on their first no-hitter... a dipsh!t umpire. Ive always been against replay. I like and accept the human element of a game. With the technology today, not utilizing it for key moments in a game seems foolish. The game is so worried about length of game, yet it still finishes in less time than an NFL game.
Aten
Baseball just has a retarded sense of history. They resist stuff like instant replay out of some misguided sense of quaint traditionalism, perpetuating subjectivity and human error, while at the same time wanting the record book to be sacrosanct. Glorifying the past at the expense of the present ignores that the latter will by definition become the former, and this is what happens.

Do you honestly expect an hour's worth of replays every night? Do you see 25% of the game being replays in any other sport? Just leave it for controversial calls or introduce some other limit. Won't take that long.
