One fantastic week of music -

NJ

Recommended Posts

I am truly blessed. Tomorrow I get to attend Clapton's Crossroads Festival again and hear the following greats strut their stuff:

Albert Lee, Allman Brothers Band, BB King, Bert Jansch, Buddy Guy, David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos, Doyle Bramhall II, Earl Klugh, Eric Clapton, Gary Clark Jr., Hubert Sumlin, James Burton, Jeff Beck, Jimmie Vaughan, Joe Bonamassa, John Mayer, Johnny Winter, Jonny Lang, Keb' Mo', Pino Daniele, Robert Cray, Robert Randolph, Sheryl Crow, Sonny Landreth, Stefan Grossman, Steve Winwood, Vince Gill, and ZZ Top.

This just in - Gregg Allman has undergone successful liver transplant surgery.

Therefore, the Allman Brothers Band will not be performing at Saturday's Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL. The Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Band, along with longtime Allman Brothers Band/Gov't Mule iconic guitarist Warren Haynes, will take the stage and invite special friends to join them.

As much as I love The Bro's - I can live with the "replacements".

Then Thursday thru Sunday our Exchange Club will put on our 21'st annual Ribfest and raise money to fight child abuse and domestic violence.

Here are some of the acts playing:

Heartsfield, The Charlie Daniels Band,The Virginia Gentlemen, Sammy Hagar, John Kay and Steppenwolf, Eric Burdon and the Animals, Tonic, Sister Hazel, Los Lonely Boys, Jonny Lang, Nick Moss, Julianne Hough, Jason Michael Carroll, LeAnn Rimes, Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult, and that forever yet to be famous band out of my basement - The Black Cat Bone Blues Band http://www.myspace.com/bcbblues

We're hoping to break our existing record of $920,000.00 net proceeds

and get over the million dollar mark. Even if we don't it will still be a great event with some great music.

Hope everybody has a super 4th week/weekend.

Wish I could go see this. Shame about Gregg Allman, he's been good the last couple times I've seen him. And you've got to see Winter ever chance you get, cause it always might be the last time you can with the shape he's in. Even if he's lost a step or two.

John,

Best of luck to the band and hey, great lineup.

I noticed Bert Jansch's name. An early Zep interview with Jimmy Page had him crediting Bert Jansch and Narcisco Yepes as influences.

Have a great time.

Jansch played Black Mountain Side - which he calls Blackwaterslide, Doug.

Thanks to the other well wishers - I didn't think this could be better than the last one in 08 - but it was.

Heres a Tribune review:

In the months leading up to his Crossroads Guitar Festival on Saturday at Toyota Park in south suburban Bridgeview, Eric Clapton had been saying it would be his last.

But deep into Saturday

I got to work 'stage' for 1 night with Clapton with Derek and the Dominos.

Great experience..he was in his heroin era and quite 'out of it'

How very cool that must have been SJ - it wasn't the one at War Memorial Auditorium in Syracuse was it? That's supposed to be one of the 2 that Duane Allman played with them and I thought I remember you were from that neck of the woods.

actually it was the 1st US appearance of the group. The concert was at Rider College in Trenton NJ on October 15th, 1970.

Allman played 12/1 in Tampa, and 12/2 in Syracuse.

In prep for our gig at the event this Saturday, a friend came up from Knoxville, and another came back from Finland on vaca from a work assignment. Both are great harp players and I thought it would be cool to bring them both up on stage Saturday for a "harp duel". Late last night they both came over with our lead guitarist so we all plugged in and just started playing - this was the result for those that might want to listen:
