The Red Sox have overcome a ton of injuries...

But if Dustin Pedroia is out for a significant amount of time, that is going to be very difficult. At this point, I hope Girardi takes no one on the Sox for All-Stars except maybe Buchholz who won't even throw and the Sox can try and get healthy. Where the Red Sox would be without the Darnell McDonalds and Daniel Navas, I cannot even grasp that. Hopefully Pedroia's foot is not fractured, but crutches aren't a great sign either.

Not trying to minimize Dusty's injury, but every team gets them...some worse than others.

Yanks have not been immune to the injury bug either.

Player and games missed.

Jeter 2

Swisher 5

Gardner 5

ARod 6

Granderson 24

Posada 27

And last but not least, Nick Johnson who is probably gone for the year after missing 49 games out of 73 played.

I'm not even going to address the pen where injuries have hit there as well.

Ellsbury

Cameron

Drew

Beckett

Dice-K

Youks

Scutaro

Hermida

Lowell

Pedroia

All have missed time due to injury. Scutaro and Youks are both playing hurt. Cameron probably will never fully recover from his injury. The Red Sox must lead the league in broken ribs. It's been quite ridiculous. Beckett and Ellsbury are supposed to be back by the end of July. That's better than anything you can get in a trade.

I would say Pedroia is the most significant injury. He just makes the team go.

Who is making excuses? The fact that they have withstood these injuries and are in the thick of it after that horrid April start just goes to show their determination.

But CC, you're making it all about the Red Sox. Yanks have had just as many injuries...ARod, Jeter, and Posada are playing hurt as well and still they haven't really hit their stride yet and yes, they still mangage to be in first place. And as soon as Tex gets his head on straight, this race won't be even that close.

Tell me again how reading comprehension is not my strong suit.

That's because this thread is about the Red Sox and their injuries. You're the one that brought the Yankees into this.

And when both teams are fully healthy, the race will be very close. DOn't kid yourself.

So, let me get this right. If this was a thread started by a Yankees fan, you wouldn't add your two cents about the Red Sox injuries...right.

I hate these threads from either team.

Our respective teams have spent over a billion dollars on salary the last 4 years combined.

good post.

back to the original thread topic Pedroia's been great the last week...wondering what's wrong with his foot

Buchholz just left the game after pulling a muscle after running the bases. This is becoming ridiculous.

Just saw on the Globe website that he hyperextended his knee. Not sure how much time he'll miss. At least he didn't destroy his foot like Wang a few years ago.

Not being able to run the bases without hurting yourself is pathetic.

Meh. Even positional players who run the bases every day pop and strain muscles. It can happen to anyone. I actually enjoy the interleague and understand that the running of the bases is part of the game. I'm just taken aback by the number of injuries for the Sox. They don't think Buchholz is going to miss a start though.

Of course you enjoy it. The Sox feast on the NL. How many games back would they be if it weren't for interleague?

Chiang Ming Wang? He was never the same after a base running injury in Houston.

Think about it;in little league most good ptichers are the best player anyway . But most primo pitchers begin concentrating on the mound when they are indentified as a good ptichers in high school, and their batting skills erode from there. Most pitchers from the later stages of high school through colleg and the minors do not bat. DOn't know how you change the NL, or demand now every other league suddenly go back to pre-DH rules everywhere.

Jason Varitek and Manny Delcarmen are the latest to go on the DL. That's 10 players total (and BUchholz is NOT on the DL but hurt) and 5 in the last week.

Un f'n real. If the Sox make the postseason, Francon is manager of the century.

I disagree, PF alluded to this. The Yankees and Red Sox can't play the injury card ever. The payroll affords them depth and the ability to replace players at the trading deadline.
