Lawn \ Water Thread

New Jersey borders an ocean and you have watering restrictions.

I love irony.

No water restrictions here. We've got plenty of water and none of you can have access to it.

Dude I went nuts over the exact same thing. I was like all we hear about is global warming, let me feed the lawn some salt water for crying out loud.

But the water levels are high, this restriction had to do with demand. The population in this area increases over the summer with all the "Shore traffic" and they were worried about demand.

Still sucks. But I was flipping. 2 months ago we had flooding, if they were telling me we were running low on water I would have lost it.

I have not watered my lawn but one time this year. We get enough rain to keep it alive and growing.

Here you go Max. I may seriously look into ordering some if we dont get any rain by the end of this week.

http://www.grassbgreen.com/

Also do a Bing search for green lawn dye, theres quite a few youtube videos showing these products being applied.

Awesome, I think that is what they are putting down on all the foreclosures in Arizona!

just call a swimming pool company and get a truck load of water delivered

don't worry about the chlorine, its not that much higher than city water

when they get there, just casually explain you don't have a pool, and you'd really appreciate it if they could walk the property spraying the water, and please don't flood the roses

The green dye is cheaper and will last longer---

You'd think his mom might have thrown that in. Bitch.

My mother died just about a year ago. Dick.

In my opinion, there is nothing better for your home then keeping it well manicured.

The money, time, and water spent on maintaining a lawn are all a waste, IMHO. The only thing it's doing out there is providing employment for my kid. The next house is going to have all pachysandra out front, and patio/pool in the back.

Anyone in NJ with these watering restrictions? Wow, my lawn is fried already. Brown out.

we have had for years here..

there were times, zero watering allowed,,now we are in a every other day thing based on address..

Customers using automatic or non-automatic irrigation systems may water their lawn from 12:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for addresses ending in an odd number. Wednesday, Friday and Sunday are watering days for even-numbered addresses. Hose end sprinklers may be operated from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the same odd and even address schedule as sprinklers systems. No irrigating is allowed on Monday.

We finally got some rain over the weekend, so I was able to mow my lawn yesterday. Lots of brown patches in it. I'm not on a municipal water system, though, and I'm not going to drain my spring to keep grass green.

Move to Michigan. We need the bodies, and the jobs you create.

For your trouble youll get:

  • Great lakes shoreline: Looks just like ocean, except blue fresh water, no sharks, no smell!
  • Waterfront property everywhere. Price a lakefront cottage in NY and in Michigan you get a nicer one, closer to home, for 1/4 * $NY.
  • No such thing as water-hours.
  • Vehicle emissions inspections/stickers? What are those?
  • Traffic Jams? Only in Detroit...and they're getting smaller every year :)

Sorry about the job thing though. GM's managers were idiots and did this to us...but your Kia didn't help matters any.

Last year we were in an "exceptional" drought, to the point that lakes were drying up.

Everyone's lawn was brown, so no big deal. Plus, even watering really didn't help. We also didn't want to waste water (and pay $$$ water bills) on a lawn when there were shortages.

This year, a different story. Lots of rain, grass is amazingly green and won't stop growing.

Just wait it out. The rains will return (and then people will complain about that ) and you'll have green lawns again.

+1

Couple of years ago Austin put in newer restrictions for May thru Sept. This is the minimum restriction, could be fewer or no days depending on weather.

Can only water 2 days a week.

Sprinkler systems or movable sprinklers: No watering between 10 AM and 7 PM.

Hoses can be used anytime, but only on your eligible days.

Watering only on these days, no matter the mechanism.

Multi-family & commercial: Tues & Fri

Odd-numbered houses: Wed & Sat

Even-numbered houses: Thurs & Sun

I had to make a trek to Monmouth County on Saturday and it was quite obvious that my friend wasn't following the watering restrictions, as he was the only house on the block without hay for a lawn.

He should be tarred and feathered. I really dislike people who disobey stuff like this.
