SJ Reviews: 'Cyrus'..Over 40 romance comedy that's original (3 1/2)

'Cyrus' is a quirky unassuming Indie out now that may be one of the surprise hits of this years Indie circuit. The cast is AList, with John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill, Marisa Tomei (rapidly becoming the Streep of Indies) and Catherine Keener carry this off as a Broadway type stage act.

Premise is Reilly's ex-wife (that he hasnt gotten over yet) is getting married in a week. They are still best friends and she is distraught over his slovenly downward spiral after thier divorce. She asks him to a party she and her fiance are at and try to hook him up.

Enter Tomei, a many years ago divorced woman who herself has a bit of a odd bent. They hook up and romance blooms Then enter Jonah hill as a 22 year old still at home , really really attached son to Tomei.

The movie basically takes off from here as we see the battle of wits ensue between the lovestruck Reilly and the territorial Hill.

The movie hits many real down to earth vibes as it weaves its gentle little comedic story.

A fresh approach to a old subject is done well here, with a stellar cast and a intelligent script.

Enjoy.
