2009 season rant

Seeing the old Chargers conspiracy thread get bumped inspired me to write this. Several things that still bother me about the Jets playoff run:

-Jets "backed into the playoffs." True, the Jets did back into the playoffs. True, they didn't earn a win against Indy week 16.

Still, I'm sick of them getting blamed for what was entirely a Colts management decision. If you told any team "I'm benching Peyton Manning", I'm sure they would be quite happy about that.. but at the end of the day, it's not their decision. The Colts made that decision. If the teacher gives the class the answers to a test, what are you going to do? Well, I use them. It's not cheating. You KNOW the right answers. There's no way to UN-know them. I'm glad that the Colts basically gave us half of a free pass, but we didn't steal that pass. I'm happy that Caldwell gave us that opportunity, but if you're mad about it stop blaming the Jets and start blaming the organization that had COMPLETE CONTROL over the decision!

-Jets didn't win, Chargers lost.

Last time I checked, when the two are going head to head, a Jets win = a Chargers loss and a Chargers loss = a Jets win. If we do better than your team, we win. Bottom line. Our team outperformed theirs.

I make no distinction. Last time I checked, a kicker is part of your team. Your kicker choked repeatedly, our kicker executed and we won... that means we are the better team. That's not our fault. Maybe you should've gotten into the endzone. Your kicker loses you the game, then he loses you the game. We didn't pick your kicker for you, so stop whining.

The End.

Backing into the playoffs is getting in off of a loss, I would not consider what happened last season as backing in.

Did they get some help from teams resting starters? Yes, but that's totally out of their control and seems to happen every year.

The Jets won their way into the playoffs, they could only play what the other team puts on the field, they did not back into anything.

We beat the Chargers fair and square. Does that make us better? We were better that day, and that's the day that counted!

I agree completely. That kicker was a big part of them being where they were. Maybe the Chargers wouldn't have such a great record if they weren't playing the Raiders and Chiefs twice a year. Hell, even the Broncos suck as far as I'm concerned.

I understand the media trying to temper our expectations because the team was 9-7, but they were in almost ever game and they certainly lost more games they could/should have won than won games that they could/should have lost. They lost a few games where they outplayed their opponents by most accounts (Falcons, 2nd fins and Bills loss). The only times they were smacked around at all were the Saints, the 2nd Pats game, and the Colts in the playoffs. That's not such bad odds, the super bowl winner and runner up, both on the road and they beat two of the three in other match-ups.

I'm also with Brooklyn. They won out. Backing in is losing and still making it. They needed help and they got it. Big ****ing deal. They won two games in the playoffs. Deal with it.

Good thread. The postseason run makes the backing in talk nonsense imo. They dominated the Bengals and Chargers. Clearly the Jets belonged there.

Hopefully this year they can build upon that and take it even further.
