Black Parents give birth to White Baby!

My new theory... has to be artificial insemination. They didn't mention if the couple was undergoing infertility treatment, but a Dr. could have accidentally switched vials.

The kid would come out mixed, that baby is white, blonde haired blue eyed

Unless they did a complete deal where they transplanted the fertilized egg of another mother?

With some infertility therapies, the Dr mixes up mom & dad's junk then reinserts it. If he goes to the back room and grabs the wrong vial, the kid would look like the other donors. Since they're in Britain, I think the odds favor Dr Mixup grabbing the vial from a white couple.

This is very easily explainable...haven't you guys ever seen Punnett squares?

That's why they put this quote in the story: Pale genes skipping generations before cropping up again could have explained the baby's appearance.

Yeah it is. It is VERY easy to explain. If you can't learn how to make a Punnett square in less than 1 minute, you truly suck.

Truth is I've used a Punnet Square in undergrad while breeding Fruit Flys and trying to concentrate specific traits in their offspring during a genetics class.

But this is obviously slightly more complicated than that.

That explains nothing. This baby has no black features. They had to have done something that resulted in this. Maybe now that they see all the media attention they're getting they're afraid to say they did something like artificial insemination, but we will all know in a few months when a black baby is born to a white couple.

It's not easily explainable...There are several possibilities that it could be. A genetic rarity is probably the least likely, though technically still possible solution.

And wtf do you mean by "pale" genes. I've never seen them called "pale" genes in science, there are genes and alleles that determine the amount of melanin, which largely determines skin color. There aren't mysterious genes that say peek-a-boo every now and then that suddenly makes a kid white.

She's mixed. Look at her nose.

I was just about to say the same thing. Her nose looks just like her mother's and her brother's. Look at the close up of the baby in the first post and the pics of her mother and brother. Very similar.

But where the blond hair and blue eyes come from. :confused0082:

Jesus got stoned on some laced loaves and fishes and was like, "Yo, peter, check this out!" And suddenly baby Barbie is born, and Peter's like, "Duuuude! No way! you are ****ed up!" and Jesus looked at him like, "what? C'mom man, you know that ****s funny." And Peter goes, "Nah Man not cool. Sometimes you go too far, bro." And Jesus was like, "****in' buzz kill."

probably a mutation of the expression of the overall pigmentation genes, as the facial features seem very typical of the parents

what's a bit of a curveball is the straight hair, but since we're talking a likely mutation here, not really that odd

those darn spindle fibers, never know what they're gonna come up with

The pale genes isn't my quote, I got it from the story.

Looks at these adorable twin girls....both parents bi-racial though. I suspect you have to have some recessive gene in there that somehow gets together with another and whala! You're the topic of a thread on Jetnation.

I remember reading a few paragraphs on this in a book a long time ago. When two half black, half white parents have offspring, the greatest chance is for the child to have both white and black characteristics. However, there is a statistically lesser chance that the child will have all white or all black characteristics, even if the parents themselves appear to be "in the middle".

The two children above are an example of this.

The book did not deal with what happens if both parents are 75% black and 25% white, or any ratios other than 50-50.

In the case of the Nigerian parents, they are not 50% black, 50% white so I really don't know how any of this applies. I think it is conceivable that ratios other than 50% might yield results like this at a statistically smaller rate, but I have not come across any writing on it.
