Verde
My dog, Luna, was old and had a tumor in her mouth. She lived a great life and couldn't have had a better home. Yet somehow I still feel guilty. I am sick to my stomach sad. The finality is so difficult to accept. Anyone who's ever had to do this knows what I'm feeling. Right? I will always love you, My "Loon". The Crusher
Verde you have my deepest sympathies. Tuff thing to do, laying a friend to rest. My father had to put down his 12 year old Great Dane last year, "Cher". We bought. her for him the same year my son Baby Sal was born. All any pet could ask for is the type of life Im sure you gave her. RIP Luna
Thor99
One of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life. It helps to know that she is no longer in pain.

visajets
One of the hardest and saddest things ive ever done in my life was putting our German Sheperd down after a long illness. I remember it like it was yesterday. I got another one and he died on his own. That was 10 years ago. I still cant bring myself to get another. Pets are family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

NIGHT STALKER
It's tough. My dog (the only dog I've ever owned...German Sheperd) Shadow died about 10 years ago...he was around 11 years old. During his heyday, he was close to 100 lbs...pure black dog. When I would walk him through the neighborhood, I would place a wooden bone I had carved in his mouth until we returned from his walk...he was an imposing dog...he died in my arms. So, I feel for you Verde. I refuse to get another dog.
Green DNA
So sorry Verde, I know what you feel. I remember making the decision to take my Boxer to the vet to have him put to sleep. I felt sick to my stomach for weeks and felt like I had lost a family member.
#27TheDominator
RIP Luna Sorry for your loss Verde. I know it's no consolation, but FWIW, if I come back as a pet I would wish for an owner like you.

I will always love you, My "Loon". Very sad to hear...and very tough to handle...but its not fair to the dog to keep it suffering. I got lucky. I had a Min Pin that lived until she was 19 years old. On my birthday, I came home from a family dinner and she was struggling. I remember putting her to bed and just praying that I didnt have to wake up and make the decision if I had to put her down or not. Luckily, she passed in her sleep, so I didnt have to. You are doing the right thing for Loon. Hard to accept, but often times the right decisions are...RIP.
Garb
Oh, V, so sorry! It's so hard. Be comforted - somehow - with the knowledge that Luna lived a great life, was loved and loved you all.
Scott Dierking
Verde, my family knows it all too well. 8 years ago I had to put my collie of 2.5 years down when he was found to have liver cancer. That dog had become a practical extension of me, and I cried like a baby that night. Feeling hopeless. 5 years ago we had to put our bearded collie down , 2 years of age, from blood disorders from a rare disease and then compounded by lymes. This was after several blood transfusions, multiple stays at Penn's Vet hospital and oodles of cash. Our current collie (keep going to that well), will be 3 in Feb. Everything seems ok with her to this time. These pets give and give and give, and ask nothing in return other than food and shelter. We all deserve best friend like that. May your great memories be preserved.
NJ
I'm very sorry to hear about this VG. It's an enormously tough thing to do but you're doing it out of love. Selfishness would let your pet suffer so you could keep her around. Many good thoughts your way.
The Gun Of Bavaria
I was in the early stages of dating my wife when we had to put her Golden Retriever down. I had to do it with our Brittany during my first marriage as well. It sucks and it truly makes you understand how important a pet is to a family. Lily
Verde, we haven't "met" but I know how it feels, too. My only dog I've ever had, Kelli, had to be put down a couple of years ago. I should have done it sooner, but I kept thinking she'd go on her own. At least you did the right thing. I plan to get another dog someday, after my son moves out with his. But I'm not really ready yet. I'm sorry you have to go through this.
LoneStarLady
V--Sorry you had to do that, but I'm sure Luna had a wonderful life just from hearing your stories and feeling the love & compassion you have for your dogs. It is difficult to do and many of us on here have gone through it. But please know in your heart that you did the right thing so that your "Loon" wouldn't suffer any more. Your memories and thoughts of the good times and of the loving home you provided will sustain you as you deal with your loss. BTW, dobies rock! I felt sick to my stomach for weeks and felt like I had lost a family member. when we put our boxer joey down, I sobbed like a kid he was a gentle giant, a retired show dog we got from boxer rescue. the guilt is awful, but it's the right thing to do

Boozer76
My Max is 11 now. At his annual I started to brace myself to hear bad news that his age was gonna catch up fast given his size (100 lb lab/shepherd mix), but alas he's doing great so far. I had to put down my husky/malamute at 9 yrs old back when I was in college and it was devastating. There are no words.
#90
I am so sorry. I know the hurt is so bad. had two put my two cats to sleep two weeks apart. Once the first one was gone, then other one wanted not part of being around. That was three years ago and I still feel it in my stomach. Hang in there and know that you showed your love by not letting your dog suffer. God Bless.
