Integrity28
Listen, I know the crazy old coot seemingly lost his marbles years ago... but I have to admit. I like the guy. I hate the Raiders. I hate their fans. But I like their owner. Many of you already understand that without Al Davis the NFL would not be what it is today. From his bullheaded role in the merger, to him being one of the first owners to provide opportunity for African Americans within the game... he's had a heavy hand in shaping what is now, far and away, the greatest of all professional sports in America. Anyway, all that said... I, like many of you, thought he was out of his mind when he held the press conference and use the overhead projector to explain the Lane Kiffin situation. Now here we are a couple years later... and who looks crazy now? Kiffin is some piece of work. Low and behold here we are, the Raiders have slowly improved as a team since he got rid of Kiffin... and Kiffin has gone on a tear of self-entitled screw you craziness throughout the NCAA and NFL since being fired by Davis. Granted, Al Davis sure might be crazy... but at his age, he is entitled to be a bit wacky... Lane Kiffin, well... he should know better. This jagoff is beginning to rival, if not trump, Al Davis in craziness... except Kiffin in theory has his whole career ahead of him. People are focusing on Dez Bryant not carrying football pads... who cares about that really... when, Kiffin has now pissed in the face of the NCAA and the NFL multiple times, and for some reason... people keep giving him jobs!!! WTF? How is it in a sport where integrity and discipline are supposed to be championed that little punks bitches like Kiffin continually receive opportunities? Okay, well enough out of me on the subject... I've got to go earn a living. (EDIT: I've still got sleep in my eyes, and its quite possible this rant is borderline incoherent... but its not about the Jets, so I am not going to go to the lengths of fixing it.) JiFtheOracle
I've got mad respect for Al Davis. But he's one of the those guys that probably needs to step down. Lane Kiffin is head scratcher...the guy has done nothing but failed and he acts like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. The only thing he's proved is that he's a complete ass hat. I'd really like to see him return to Tenn. one of these days. How awesome would it be if Tenn. scheduled USC at home one year! Lane Kiffin is an complete d-bag, but his wife is hot! So at least he's got that going for him.

Integrity28
kiffin begged al not to draft jamarcus. Doesn't matter. Kiffin has clearly exhibited that he is no less crazy than Davis. At least Davis gave something to the game in his youth, he kind of earned the right to be the eccentric old curmudgeon that he has become. Kiffin gave the game nothing... and continues to **** where he eats, at both the NFL and NCAA level.
bitonti
al davis has 3 rings. That's 3 more rings than the people who say he's crazy and "lost his mind" he's got an extremely fast and athletic roster... has he made mistakes? yes but not greater than some other teams (the rams? the browns?) and he actually went to a Super Bowl in 2002. the last time the Jets were there was in the late 60's. he was vindicated on Kiffen. He robbed the Pats for Seymour. He drafted McClain who is a badass. All in all i think Al Davis is underrated. Even the aso deal isn't so crazy, if we remember how much better ASO is than the zone guys who get 10 mil a year.
#27TheDominator
This is exactly what I was thinking when I heard about Kiffin. I have always had respect for Davis despite the fact that he has obviously lost it. Brooklyn guy, Erasmus Hall High School and AFL all the way. I remember waiting to see what that **** Rozelle was going to do with the trophy when the Raiders won the super bowl. I don't think that Crazy Al's problem is being senile so much as wanting to have total control and being too damn old to maintain it. He always was a little crazy and paranoid, it's just that now that age has taken over he can't trust his own house.
Blurredorunfocused
I just want that pick the Pats stole to be as bad as possible, I should stop being angry over it all and let it go but I just hate them more than is healthy for a person to do. I like Al Davis, he`s a character and anyone that makes you laugh and often shake your head is good for the game

Kiffin is a clown...would love to see him back in Tennessee for a court room appearance in the RB coach debacle... Is Colin Cowherd still supporting this clown...Cowherd is a USC homer and has to see right through Kiffen...

Nothing about this thread was meant to be a dispute in the first place. You are simply working overtime to make a debate out of nothing. I simply said I like Al Davis, and why. Kiffin begging Al not to draft Jamarcus had NOTHING to do with my reasons why, it was just something YOU interjected into the thread. I wasn't even talking about the "why" part of Al firing Kiffin, I was simply saying he doesn't look as crazy anymore... now that Kiffin has blazed a trail of his own brand of crazy. And don't condescend to me about "facts" and them bloat your post full of your interpretation of the events that transpired as though the way you perceived it all, was fact. I don't mind you stating a point of view. But you aren't stating a point of view... You are shifting the subject of the thread in order to foster a debate. To add you are voicing your take on a situation and referring to it as fact. Frankly, I didn't start a thread about Al Davis because I was looking for a football debate. I started a thread about Al Davis as a tongue in cheek acknowledgement of just how crazy both he and Kiffin are. I don't even know why I am responding to you. Its a flipping thread about Al Davis... if you want to be the "all serious guy," by all means knock yourself out. Haven't you noticed that nobody else is taking it serious? Irish Jet
Al Davis has forgotten more about winning at football, then most people will ever know in their entire lifetime. True but he has pretty much forgotten everything. He values athletes over football players. A fundamental belief that has crucified the Raiders in recent seasons. I do agree with the original point though. He's a man of principles, and although they may look flawed now, they won him 3 rings and he built a team that was feared throughout the league. bitonti
What's even scarier is that I'm right. the ASO deal isn't as crazy as it sounds. Consider that Dunta robinson got 10 mil a year. How much better is Aso than Dunta Robinson? How much better is Revis than Dunta Robinson? 50% better? Not crazy. every year there's a new crop of corners, but there's an ASO or a Revis maybe once every 5 years. 6 footers who can lock down man to man and make interceptions just don't come around that often. Uh, Dunta's contract came over a year after Aso's. Aso's contract was not $15.1M/year in response to Dunta's $9.5M/year deal as your post implies. The Aso deal is crazy. Jetsfan80
The Aso deal is crazy. Totally and completely batsh** crazy. Yep. And the fact that Revis wanted $1 more than Aso doesn't help our cause. I think Aso even has a clause in his contract that says he has to be the highest paid CB at any given time. That doesn't help either.
