Otter
Just saw this on the Globe website... "News just coming in from Fenway Park that Kevin Youkilis' season will come to an end after undergoing thumb surgery tomorrow in Cleveland. The Globe's Amalie Benjamin is currently in the clubhouse gathering more information." Definitely the biggest loss the Sox have suffered this season. I don't think they can make a serious run at the wild card or division without Youkilis.

While they had slim chances for the wild card before this, especially in light of Lester's struggles, they have no chance now.

The one thing I know about baseball is you never say never. Lester has had a rough patch, but the defense and offense behind him has been nonexistant. That said, losing Youks is tough. Only Beltre and Scutaro (who has been injured off and on all season) haven't hit the DL from the opening day line-up. It's crazy. That said, if the pitching stays healthy and gets hot, anything can happen.
vanDoug
While I don't like the fag dance this guy does at the plate, I must admit he's a heck of a ballplayer.
faba
Well just took the best hitter out of their lineup -extra pressure on that pitching staff now.
Maxman
The Yankees and Rays are just better teams, the Sox weren't making the playoffs either way. That sucks though, Youk even though I hate you you are fun to hate. Never want season ending injuries... Hoepfully he is okay for next season and he can try to prevent the Yankees from winning 3 World Series in a row.
80gonyjets51
No, the Yankees are gonna win 3 World series in a row in my opinion. They're too good for the rest of the MLB.

They are healthier teams. Big difference.

PFSIKH
There's ALWAYS a chance Dave. Sure. Even with an erratic bullpen, they have the pitching to remain in contention. However, I would like to see them pick up a bat soon...for the right price before I take them seriously.

The line-up and offense is not the problem.
Sharrow
Conditioning and staying healthy, and having the depth and managing skill to make up for and replace the parts that can't is part of being a good team, imo. By that standard, the Yankees and Rays would definitely be considered the better teams.
