William Perlman/The Star-LedgerRB Joe McKnight, TE Jeff Cumberland and QB Mark Sanchez take a break during afternoon practice.

Share CORTLAND, N.Y. -- When Santonio returned to the Jets Wednesday, after staying in Atlanta following the surgery of his son, he said he wasn't quite sure if he'd be ready for camp.

But the receiver seems to be making the most of his time with the team, before his four-game suspension kicks in, and had a pair of nice catches this afternoon working with the second team. One was on a quick slant, with Dwight Lowery on coverage. The other was a long pass along the left sideline which he caught, and then slipped inside of Drew Coleman to get upfield.

Running back Danny Woodhead also stood out this afternoon, pinballing off defenders on a few nice runs.

Other notes:

WR Jerricho Cotchery had a zippy catch on an out route as both S Jim Leonhard and CB Kyle Wilson dove in vain. "You going to help pay Jimmy's fine?" a staffer asked Cotchery afterward.

WR Marcus Henry has made a few nice catches during camp. He had another one today, sticking his long arms up to pull down a high pass. A benefit of being 6-foot-4. WR Larry Taylor, who is not 6-4, delivered one of the big plays of practice: a 50-yard touchdown with DB Bo Smith in coverage.

TE Jeff Cumberland, who sustained a head injury this morning, did not practice in the afternoon session. RB Joe McKnight appeared to be hobbling slightly, but we haven't been able to glean any more information, so don't make too much of that yet.

P Steve Weatherford apparently bought the team "shaker weights" (help me here, I think this is off an infomercial). They were delivered during practice, to the delight of the players.

Marty Schottenheimer, father of offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, was on the sidelines this afternoon.

The Jets will have a closed walk-through Saturday before the Green-and-White scrimmage at 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Aug 67:27PM ETEmail Print Comments Day 5 of the Jets training camp is a wrap, and the afternoon practice was pretty low-key. Marty Schottenheimer chatted with Jets coach Rex Ryan on the sideline for part of it.

One player who got a lot of reps was running back Danny Woodhead. He broke through several times carrying the ball. Jerricho Cotchery provided another highlight with his leaning forward catch of a Mark Sanchez ball.

TE Jeff Cumberland sat out of the late practice as well after sustaining a head injury this morning.

No doubt this will be featured week one on Hard Knocks. I'll hold off buying them myself until I see the Jets endorse them.

I love that 'Huge' Woodhead is still on this team.

Blah Blah Blah, shouldn't be in the NFL, waste of a roster spot. I know. But don't tell the coaching staff.

Get over it. He is.

Danny Woodhead has already beaten enormous odds. a year in the strength program will do wonders for him, like it did Cotchery and many other Jets.

JMO he's not really getting easier to cut this year because of Joe McKnight. they fill different roles.

Woodhead can be trusted on offense for 2 positions (slot WR and RR) and tries to make tackles on ST. McK is excitement in a bottle kickoff returner and occasional change of pace?

Not that you like to see anybody injured, but Cumberland and Basped are two guys that have a ton of potential but probably can't help the team this year. It might be good news that they are both dinged because there is a good chance they'd get snatched up if they are on the practice squad. Those are two guys we'd probably like to have a "red-shirt" year.
