So I got someone fired the other day...

....For sexual harassment of another employee. It started the 2nd day after he was hired when he got on his knees and proposed to her one day. It was thought to be a joke at the time.

However, he then proceeded to give this poor girl three demo CD's, one per day, of him singing and playing guitar. The lyrics got more and more lewd, creepy, and more obvious in its sexual innuendo. The day after his fourth overture, this creepy bastard was fired.

Anyone have any similar stories, from the employer perspective of otherwise?

with the job market being as sh*tty as it is these days its amazing someone would squander the opportunity over a piece of a$$. Idiot.

That being said I have never gone through a situation like this.

So the best course of action was to let this visibly shaken girl go on getting harassed, even after she said "I'm scared of that creep". Got it.

Dude it was a joke. Calm down

However, Im from the school of minding my own business. If it doesnt affect me personally I dont give a sh*t. If she had a problem with the 'creepy attention' she would've reported it herself.

She wasn't comfortable doing so, so I took action.

I believe in considering others greater than yourself. Its difficult to follow, but if we all only cared about # 1, there would be no hope for humanity. Sometimes you have to help your fellow man. Or woman, in this case.

Ah, I think we've been down this road before... IF somebody pulled a gun would you confront them?

I would have handled in differently, but that's just me. I would have confronted the guy and read him the riot act and if he continued with the BS, then I would have talked to the young lady and asked her if she wanted it reported. I am surprised she didn't report it herself if it bothered her so much. That is what your Human Resource Department is for.

We don't have an HR representative on site. The girl in question at first wanted to deal with it herself, but eventually made it clear she just wanted the problem to go away. I.E. she wanted someone else to handle it.

I would have sat down with the guy if it was a one-time thing. After all, I am directly above him in the chain of command. However, I didn't hear the extent of it until after the situation was getting pretty far gone. It was beyond a warning at that point.

You did the right thing. Though personally I would have done a parody of the guys song and added fart noises. Then if he had anything to say I would pee on his shoe next time we where in the john. Or even outside, I like peeing in the great outdoors.

That is courageous of you. I am proud of you for doing the right thing even though you were going to suffer as a result.

Hang in there, they will replace him soon and then you can go back to the shake machine full time. Working fries and shakes has to be tough.

Jetfan80 you did well.

A guy that obnoxious is going to be painful to everyone. She's just the first person his crap landed on.

Everyone suggesting it's her problem is a tool. If she reports it then management will have to deal with political "maybe she's lying" crap. ..and she'll be branded high-maintenance by mgmt also.

So now you're minus one idiot, and she'll be a political ally in the office forever. Excellent work.

80, just out of curiosity, you want nothing to do with this chick? Were you pulling the ultimate c-block or legitimately saving a damsel in distress? How distraught was this girl anyway?

She's a cute girl but there's nothing there. I would have done this for any girl who I work with if they were in her shoes.

The whole "Don't Snitch" campaign has done wonders for the inner city and other areas of the country greatly affected by crime. The same people bitching about people "snitching" are typically the ones saying that the police, local/county/state/federal government aren't doing enough or "don't care".

The guy was a douchebag and needed to go. Why would anyone tolerate that in their office?

Nice work getting the ball rolling on douchebag. Hope he enjoys unemployment.

You did right Jetfan80.

An employee is responsible for his behavior on the job. If this guy is as far gone as you describe, it was time for him to go.

What right does he have to interfere with another employee feeling comfortable on her job-especially since she was there first.

The more I see this thread the more I hate it. I don't get how getting a guy (I'm guessing a harmless early 20's type) fired from his f*cking job is cool just because he might be harassing some girl. Unless this girl was explicitly stating that she felt harassed I don't even get how it constitutes as sexual harassment (ignoring that everything can constitute as sexual harassment now).

How involved was the girl in getting him fired? On a scale of 1-10 how distraught was she? Am I right in guessing that these two people are of the clueless/harmless breed of 20 somethings?

This kid was the kind of person who seemed all right at first but had some real sociopath tendencies. I mean, he even gave the girl a pineapple, wtf? And yes, the girl EXPLICITLY said she felt harassed. Isn't that enough?

Workplace harassment just isn't something you tolerate in the 21st century. It doesn't matter if she was a 1 on the "distraught" scale. As faba mentioned earlier in the thread, he got HIMSELF fired more than anything else. If it wasn't me who reported it, it would have been someone else.

Between the above and the brilliant Mosque thread you started, the more I read posts by you, the less respect I have for you. Just sayin'.

LOL! :rim:

Seriously, though, Jetsfan80 has already stated that he is a level of authority above both of them. That puts him in the position of ensuring smooth functioning of the workplace among the people under his authority according to modern standards-which admittedly seem to be a heck of a lot stricter than the standards of just 15 or 20 years ago. The incidents as he described it, if performed in the first few days on the job, would get the guy bounced out of probably 80% or more of modern workplaces, higher in white collar situations.

There is also the fact that many people, when getting harrassed, for some reason do not have the confidence to complain, but attempt to carry on and ignore it, even though such harassment does indeed affect their ability to do the job.

Add it up, and it comes out to Jetsfan80 doing the right thing.
