Clemens to Arizona? Hmm

August, 26, 2010 Aug 267:15PM ETEmail Print Comments The Arizona Cardinals like collecting former New York Jets. They traded for Kerry Rhodes, signed Jay Feely as an unrestricted free agent and signed Alan Faneca after he was released. Even the Cards' head coach, Ken Whisenhunt, is a former Jets assistant.

Might they add another to the list by pursuing Kellen Clemens?

The Cards have quarterback issues. They benched the disappointing Matt Leinart this week, deciding to go with Derek Anderson for their game against the Chicago Bears. Some folks are reporting that it's a permanent move, with speculation that Leinart could be dumped.

In that case, the Cards would be looking for a veteran. Enter, Clemens, whose roster spot is anything but secure. Clemens has played well in the preseason, but the No. 2 job belongs to Mark Brunell and it's hard to imagine them paying Clemens $1.1 million to be third string. The other candidate for No. 3, Kevin O'Connell, makes $470,000.

As ESPNNewYork.com reported two weeks ago, the Jets are open to trading Clemens. Obviously, GM Mike Tannenbaum likes doing business with Arizona. Could be something to keep an eye on.

It is possible that at some point in the future I could take Cimini seriously if 95% of the things he writes stops being speculation pieces. Maybe. I wouldn't rule it out nor can I confirm nor deny that it is based on any sort of fact or from any source.

In an uncapped year, Kellen Clemens is worth every penny of the $630K he's making over Kevin O'Connell, who has been horrible. Kellen has arguably been the Jets' best QB thru two preseason games. Jets would need to get something useful in a trade - like a DL, LB, or CB who would make the roster. It's not a move they should make just for the hell of it.

Not one person predicted Lienart would be this bad. He's playing too poorly for the partying to take all the blame, he must have been overrated coming out USC.

I didn't think he'd be an NFL starter. I was high on Cutler and VY. As much as I hated Pennington, I still didn't want Leinart, which is saying something. I wanted Clemens over Pennington.

A little off topic, but I hope Sanchez breaks the mold for USC turned NFL QB's. They sure haven't lit up the NFL as far as franchise QB's...Carson Palmer hasn't really showed much before anyone mentions him.

Mark Sanchez, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Sean Salisbury, Rodney Peete, Pat Haden, Matt Cassel, Bill Nelsen, Pete Beathard, Vince Evans, Paul McDonald, Todd Marinovich, Rob Johnson and John David Booty. Not exactly HOF material.

Take that a-word out, KC has clearly been the best Jets QB in preseason.

Maybe, but I was thinking the same thing as I read this thread. For the most part USC QB's have been serviceable and in the case of Peete and Palmer, real contributors to their teams. They are not like Florida QB's which for the most part are absolutely horrible in the pros. But I am hoping that Sanchez can be a Franchise QB. After two preseason games I have to say I am not encouraged....But let's see how he does tonight against the Redskins.

So because KC has been the best Qb in the preseason this year against 2s and 3s we somehow forget that this guy sucks? We have had him for 4 years. We've seen him play in the reg season. He is as unimpressive as it gets. He could not beat out Sanchez with 3 years in the system last TC. Get whatever you can for this guy. He's a waste of space.

that's not true... many wanted nothing to do with him in 06

This may or may not be true, but we are not talking about him beating out Sanchez. Who on the Jets is better right now?

I wonder what Rick Mirer is doing these days

O'Connell is as good as gone.

Understood. But we are comparing a proven veteran who has been in our system for 3 wks to a guy who has underachieved in our system for 4 years. We're taking two preseason games that KC has looked better than a guy who's been here for less than a month. Let's keep things in perspective here. KC is not good. At least not here. I would love to get something for him. With all the cuts coming, I think other teams would love to get something for one of their more difficult decisions to make. It could work out for both sides.

Carson Palmer was well on his way towards elite status before Kimo snapped his leg.
